Hi all,
I am new to this forum as well as SLR world. I want to buy a Nikon D40X camera.
In harvey norman its around 1150 S$.
Do u think its good to buy @ harvey norman or i should go for Funan/Simlim.
Btw i am little bit scared in going Funan/Simlim since i am not much familiar with camera's.
Please advice me.

Thanks in advance.
Jasan

I think if you are new, take some time to look around, don't rush the purchase. Sometimes u meet good people along the way too, learn good advice :D Look which place has the best offer, and best people. If their price is too good, and the salesperson doesn't seem reliable, its likely that its too good to be true. Especially at sim lim where they quote u prices before GST, so make sure u ask for the inclusive total price, and ask if theres discounts or promotions.. basic skill :)

not exactly the place to post, but i suppose you can get a set for abt 950 to 1k right now

look up the sticky pricelist in the main nikon section and call up some shops to ask u may get some different prices

h*rvey is good for see see look look only.... The price is always on the high side....

I am also getting my D40X.... several places no stock right now.... waiting for its arrival....

Try John 3:16 at Funan 4th flr and look for Samuel. He's the owner's son. Nice friendly shop. He will allow you to test out the camera and no obligation. Tell him Ang recommend you and he will be even more helpful :bsmilie:

Don't get from the big department stores as their prices are on the high side :nono:...also, from my experience, their staff are not that knowledgeable abt photography and the equipment specs..after sales service also sucks

If he says that, Sam will say, "take whatever you want and we'll charge to Ang!" :P

Seriously though, John 3:16 is a good shop not only because of the initial service; they remember you. It never fails to amaze me how Sam remembers the names, or at least the faces of any of his previous customers. You can almost certainly be assured of good post-sales service whenever you return there, except on Sundays (because they're closed on Sundays).

Hend I never say "Chan refer you" :bsmilie:

umm you mean installment?

You can get installment at camera shops like Lords, MS Color and CP...
which is good .. but can get carried away with purchases... :bsmilie:

Huh? they got installment?
How they implement? Credit card or GIRO (tongue in cheek) or what? And how they determine eligibility also? Wah.. first time I heard

I don't know about CP, but the rest provide instalments? You sure?

haiz.. I think I spend too much $ at these shops...

yup very sure....

MS Color... DBS/POSB/OCBC (and dunno what else... Diners?) Up to 24 months ( however + 5% processing on top of total price)
Lords.... Citibank (and dunno what else) - Think 12 months.. I believe no extra charge..
CP.... OCBC (& dunno what other banks) - 12 months.. no extra charge but on minimum of either $300 or $500 amt.. can't remember

Maybe other shops have but normally this is where I have blown my $

Wah. I really am shocked.

How do they check eligibility? You bring your payslip/income statement down?

Should be they check through the credit cards. As long as they can take verification from the cards, then you're eligible.
