Don't think you'd be able to take people shots w/ an IR filter mounted on lens due to the slow shutter speed. If you wanna take people IR, a converted IR camera is the way to go

For sure a IR cam is better and easier. You can compose and shoot just like any camera. For filter, you need to compose first before putting on IR filter as you see nothing from the viewfinder when the filter is on your lens and you'll need a tripod most of the time.
