I am actually a little puzzle. Correct me if I am wrong... M40 and DA40 are optically the same design, right? But what I feel is that M40 isn't exactly a razor sharp lens at all, don't think the bokeh is that good either. When I was using them on film, my M50/1.7 is the sharper one. Or maybe I didn't have a good copy, after all...

Yes, the M40 isn't as sharp as the DA40, can't say it's razor sharp at atll unless stop down. And bokeh isn't really creamy smooth on both lens. Optically both lens share similar 5 element in 4 group design, but the M40 can only focus down to 60cm while the DA40 has 40cm min focusing distance.

Between these two, I prefer the DA40 for its fast AF, sharpness, closer min focusing distance, and even thinner barrel But the M40 does produce some nice photos too, especially the colors which are different from the DA40 in my short experience.

Sharpness isn't all I guess. Both lenses are very good for street photography and landscape.

So you finally got the DA*50135? Congratulations! Nice testing shots too. But look at the EXIF of each photo, you took all these shots at 135mm, just as I expected if I were using the same lens

Looking forward to seeing more sample by this one, and the DA1650


I myself opted for the mega zoom DA18-250 instead. Hope it's a right decision. Used it yesterday, seemed working okay. Will post some samples soon.
