When shooting birds, I will bring only gears needed purely for shooting birds. It will be shooting birds and shooting other things is secondary. Most of the time I'm prepared for that "right time" when it happen. Have the gears all set up ready and wait or look for the birds and not when you see the birds and start to set up the gears.
