10 years ago, I was thinking of Nikon or canon, finally I choose Nikon. And up to date now I own Nikon F3p, F4s & FA with 3 Lens and one Contax ST with oPlanar 100f2.

But today I was planning to change it to canon, maybe because Canon have more choice of Lens & D30 is in my budget to have it. Plan to move in to DSLR.

 Should I change? Need advise for all expert.......

Oh no! Think wisely and REALLY ASSESS YOUR NEEDS OR ARE THEY NEEDS OR WANTS?

shutter lag - but ok lah its cos my isn't aDSLR which has little or no shutter lag - do correct me if i am wrong on this. :)

the other things is i just find it so troublesome to load the pix on my computer & do correction like re-sizing. Find it too time consuming.

Prefer to pop by the lab & just dump the film there & view the prints later. Plus the anticipation of how the prints will turn out is quit thrilling also :)

The above is just my personal view - a person who is more computer savy may disagree.

totally agree with you.....even though since last month I have been saying that I should learn how to work with PS, but till today still haven't got the "spirit" to master it (mind you, went library borrowed 2 thick books on PS leh, but never even flipped one page :embrass: ).

That's way I am also thinking of dumping my S602 and get a F80 or Eos 30.

I think I still prefer other people to process the prints for me, hehehe very lazy hor.

heh yeah, the DSLR mkt not that mature anyway...

my take is film is nicer, forces you to choose what to take, great for learning. when results are important, I use film like digital anyway, bracket here n there. yes I am amateur not pro.
digital is good for me as I can burn shots shooting anything, from grungy taps to just grass, all grass, love grass. and trees. and digital I dun bracket that much either, just shoot more shots.
shutter lag-- hyeah man, eos 50 to 2100 is a big PRESS == SHOOT to PRESS -----> SHOOT...
but tried the DSLR (that D1h) anyway, it doesn't feel as cool as film dunno why... no feeling of skill... <-- dun flame..

larry don't be like tat lah - light on the hands but heavy on the pocket! $3k plus can go on holiday & take photos with my humble F80 leh

spend $3k on camera & got no money but to stay in singapore & stay at home & take pix of my cats again!

Life is short. Enjoy while you can. Go with whichever will make you happy.

Digital is not going to make you a better photographer....

I suggest you buy a film scanner instead!

Beware that the grass is not always greener on the other side!!

dun agree, both also can.
film is like chinese kungfu, u learn by discipline and optimising.
digital is like angmoh braveheart style, u win by excess...
heh.

Nikon and Canon it doesn't matter.......like which one is nicer Pepsi or Coke?
I am using Nikon now.
If switch system because you want to get 2ndhand D30 you must sit and calm down. Wait another 1-2 years from now I think D100 and S2Pro will drop at the same level with D30. Why not get S1Pro, cost less than 2k if you can find one.
My last 2 cents.....

Don't take this the wrong way, but reading your first post, the initial thing that bugs me is that, one of your two reasons in changing is for the greater variety of lenses Canon offers. Yet, and this is where the don't take it the wrong way part comes in, if your budget is so small that the D30 is all you can afford and cannot stretch to the D100 (both of which however are perfectly good cameras), will your budget also allow you to make use of the extra variety of Canon glass?

actually i was planning to sell all my gear, n get a DSLR with some Fix lens. but i think better stay n wait D100 drop price, very heart pain to sell especially my F3p.

Precisely. Besides, if you went the other way, you'll never be taking "the world's greatest photographs" to paraphrase Nikon. :)

The thing is, if you can't afford one, don't stress yourself and get one. Continue shooting with what you have.

Unless the D60 is like $3k, I don't see why the S2 Pro/D100 is way out of budget. :) The last I saw the prices here, the 3 are in the range of $3400-$3600 or so. Can lar.

Seriously, the most stupid thing one can do is to switch from one system to another, unless there's something on the other system that you SERIOUSLY cannot do without. And that is for you to evaluate for yourself. :)
