Not sure if this is the right subforum as there is no devoted one for Pinhole photography.

I thought I just want to share what I saw recently when I was travelling in China and meeting hotofrens when I was there.

I just recently attended a Photo seminar in China and had the honour of meeting up with members of the China Pinhole Photography Committee's people. Their members boost of 4000 over people. They did an exhibition of their works during the PingYao Photographic Seminar recently in Sep 06.

What amaze me was they actually hand made their gear from gear and put in so much details that I was amazed at their innovations. Here's some images I got from them.....
I brought 2 sets back and there was a mad fight for them among enthusiasts before I could even keep it for myself.

Here's the 612 version....can choose to shoot 645,6x6,6x9 or 6x12 with the smae camera by just setting the frame in the camera....Cool!!!!

The 6x6 version...with angle angle capabilities....

the ultimate 4x5 version.....The interesting thing was in comes in a box which also doubled up as a 8x10 pinhole camera. So, it's like buying 2 camera in one deal....Supercool!!!!

Wooo ... these were the cool stuffs I saw at your house that night! If only they were cheaper :(

What really amazes me when I was comparing the other maker in Hong Kong, Zeroimage was the details that this person took in crafting his camera. The details he added are:

1. A equivalent to 20mm scope finder which is usually not included as an accessory for pinhole cam.
2. There is a spirit level gauge on the body og the pinhole camera.
3. The pinhole shutter release mechanism is so well design (compared to the zeroimage ones, I used to hate the hassle I have to close the shutter on the zeroimage ones)
4. The ability to change the diferent types of film format ie. 645, 6x6, etc
5. The ability to change the pinhole size leading to different focal possible. Each pinhole cam comes supplied with shutter that are 0.2mm (equivalent of 20mm), 0.3mm (50mm) & 0.4mm (80mm).
6. They have a tripod mount screw below where it can be mounted nicely onto normal tripods.

They jokingly suggested that Singapore should do a Pinhole Photo day to introduce more people to Pinhole cameras.

Any supporters for this movement? Just my thoughts....

Very nice. Every camera is an exquisite piece of art!

One supporter here... I was already thinking of making a modern pinhole cam myself. Check out the post where I mentioned using acupuncture needles to make the holes. Maybe I shall nickname my contraption "le camera acupunctura"? ;)

I think the fun part of pinhole photography is the process of making one and all the trial and errors...Seeing a DIY camera able to take a picture is so so exciting!

jcryan55, do a shoot with your camera and show us the pix leh...

beautiful camera!!

Sinseh.....using acupuncture needles to poke a hole...errmmm...great idea...at least u more innovative than me. I suggested using sewing needle when i was in China. Haha...

But the camera maker did give me his comments. The use of neeedle (whatever needle u use) is not going to give u a very nice photo frame on yr image. The reason is using a needle to poke will inevitably create an uneven hole on the plate, though we cannot see it with your naked eye. But it will show throughas uneven edge on your images.

To overcome this problem, they have chosen to use laser to "poke"the pinhole on an alumnium plate. This will get an even hole on a more durable substrate that would not be distorted and at the same time able to be replaced in future.

The China guys did put in much thoughts when they're designing their gears....

I guess we'll have to source for a laser drill if we wish to form a Singapore Pinhole Photography Society (SPPS, hey nice anagram!).

But for DIY at the moment, this 'sinseh' here got to rely on wisdom of the ancients.... haha.

Nice cams. Reminds me of a friend named lOrBeRt (sImIdAiJi.com & hipsiong.com) who participated in a Heartlanders Photo Exhibition at Yew Tee CC some years ago. Among his exhibits was the Pinhole equipment which he used for his shots.
