Did somebody say BUG PIX? A couple o' my critter friends were quick to volunteer, decked out in their snazziest outfits . . .

nice yeah post some bugs pix here I have a Vivitar MD 55 f2.8 Macro good and bad good is it's sharp and could do 1-1 the bad is max aperture is f16 even at this aperture when doing 1-1 the DOF is still shallow :-( and doing macro is not easy... :-(
f16 and the DOF still shallow? That isn't right is it? At f8 on mine I got quite a bit freedom. Here is a butterfly i took at f8, 80% crop.
I believe bro Albertri referred to shooting at 1:1, in which case DOF would be a paper-thin 1mm even with a generous working distance of 10cm.
Your shot appears to have been taken at a lower ratio than 1:1---I'd guess somewhere around 1:3--in which case, depending on the working distance of your particular lens, would yield substantially more depth to work with.
thanks bro yep when shooting 1-1 even at f16 it's still shallow :-( specially the distance of your subject is very close to your lens... some more to make it worst my lens is 55mm so need to be uber close lolz. So what I do and I feel comfy is shoot 1:2 with NEX 24MP I could still crop to 1-1 still get decent MP left to retain very good details
With my current gear used standalone I can't get closer than 1:2; and in fact I usually prefer to work at around 1:3, which provides a nice balance between proximity/detail and sufficient DOF. Yup, the a77 (esp. with its superb onboard flash and 1/250 sync speed) and NEX-7 are the best tools currently available for getting the most detail from the middle section of a FF lens' image circle.
thanks for the tip bro will try that (1-3) see how it is. Just that most of the time I shoot handheld with no flash hehe using NEX no IBIS or OSS :-( its hard very hard.
bro can you post photo of your macro gear? sopecially your macro light setupJust want to pouison my self hehe

Maybe we should follow bro tntrue and learn the trick of the macro trade on d spot?![]()

When I shot Nikon I got the R1 macro kit with 2 SBR-200 flashes. No matter how I positioned them I couldn't see a significant difference between that setup and a shoe-mounted flash. Both cast too much reflection into the lens. And both were ergonomic pains in the a$$, especially the R1.
The only flash setup I ever used that was to my liking was the a77's onboard flash, and used only with a Tamron 60mm f/2 lens. The angle of the flash was just right so that it lit the whole frame to a working distance of 10cm without bouncing the shiny reflections directly into the lens.
As for 1:1, I find it useful only for the tiniest critters. IME, though, some "macro" lenses that can do 1:1 really lose their mojo when they get close to that magnification.
Thanks bro I happen to have a dying bug came in my house (wasp I think) place it on my study table with white light lamp I lowest I could go for aperture is F10 if I push it more with need to bump the ISO as the shutter is to slow lready the wasp is still party alive and still moving any small movement would blurred the photos.
Here's two shots I think so-so the light reflection really destroy the bug eyes :-( at F10 the DOF is still shallow this is 1-2 already crops it a bit more...
