From these photos, I don't understand the fuss about this "glow". Maybe, you can explain technically what this "glow" is all about and show us an appropriate photo of how it enhances the mood of the photo. This is actually a NEX 7 thread, so, I also need to know how this lens can improve my photos using a CV 35f1.2 or even my Nikkor 28f2.8 ais on a NEX 7 which I am thinking of buying.

To bro tntrue & Anthony Lee, probably this link will explain better on the Leica Glow. I might not have the skills yet to fully explore its potential. Thanks.

Thanks, bro Thoth. I'd heard of it before, but never googled it until yesterday. It's just a euphemism for spherical aberration, sometimes referred to as veiling flare, sometimes called the "Mandler glow" in Leica parlance.

Looking at some examples of it, one can see that Dr. Mandler's designs controlled it well enough to make it aesthetically pleasing when used judiciously.

Unfortunately certain other fast primes--including several that have passed through my hands--fail to harness that aesthetic value, rendering them almost useless when shot wide open.

Bro tntrue. I guess then, Leica intend for it to b a fast prime sharp enuff n compact enuff for their film Ms. Dr Mandler simply enhance d flaw to ensure focus stay sharp enuff despite d spherical abbé ration.

Some said other legacy fast primes like nikkor or canon can render d same glow but often than not, focus sharpness on subject suffers.

Probably tatz y d pre asph lux gathers a following for its unique character. I must say it has to be used in specific situation which I'm still exploring. B&W shots during d nitez seems to b d best time for this. N has to haf specific lighting condition within d frame to give a more soothing dreamy look yet not over d top kinda glow. Haha.

Prices for d pre asph stays strong n seems to b appreciating through out d years n I wun b surprised it will still b as it is out of production n probably some copies r getting too worn out for good collection as time goes by.

The key is that if you are convinced such a lens will enhance your photographic moments, just use it and enjoy. Most people visualise and see things differently, so, it's your choice, whatever you see in that lens, but unfortunately, not all will appreciate, like wine, because like some, I prefer a glass of beer. One suggestion, go buy an RF film camera and shoot b & w with it.

I agree with u on the comment on ppl see things differently. Cheers. But I love wine & beer too... LOL... I m not into film, sadly... B&W on digital is good enuff for me at this moment.

Mine bro is to buy cv35 f1.2 or not to buy after getting my sel 350f1.8 this lens is nice. Not a perfect lens but to my eyes it's sharp enough.

NEX-7 with the talented and versatile CV 35mm f/1.2 II . . .

. . . but with a Summicron-R on the way, this one may get thrown to the wolves to help feed my R-glass addiction . . .

I must say this lens is pretty good for it's price :-) recommended lens to have. the build is like the NEX7 kit lens same color and texture and same filter size also.
