Thats why its not a focus hunting behaviour. Its more subtle kind of slow focus across 3 seconds. You can do an experiment, by leaving the camera on the table, you will observe that the liveview will slowly gain focus onto the mid point. The speed is totally different from the focusing we get when we press the shutter release button. I dont think this poses issues other than using up more battery.

I just noticed this focus hunting behavior in both the kit len and sigma lens. I guessed it did not really bother me too much.

But i do hope they put a option to disable away the function to see the differences. Maybe increase in battery life or even faster focus?

Any NeX 7 users with the kit lens? Can you guys check where is the kit lens made in? Mine is from thailand but when I go to Sony style, the test set indicate that the lens is made in japan

Oh sorry bro. My NEX kit lens is from Japan too. Guess the first batch was made there

You should get the 5n then . There are purple fringing with the symmetrical Leica wide angle lens used on the nex7, due to light fall offs ar the extreme corners, which can be removed using corner fix.
Video should be fine as it is continually capturing the light source, but yet to try it as I don't have a wide m mount lens to validate as well

Not really worried about the stills as there is cornerfix to the rescue. Just wondering if the videos have this problem.

Not too keen on nex 5n as i cant do without a finder and ext finder on nex 5n makes it an awkward shaped package. Not the easiest one to quickly tow away and take out again from the bag(IMO). Besides, i prefer the idea of navi system.

I just noticed that even if u set to MF, it's will still AF by itself.

Question is will it caused any focusing problem ? :dunno:

Could you set your AF mode to spot (centre) focus instead of Multi (Wide) focus mode and see if that helps ?

Same, it will still auto focus...................:)

NEX-7, LA-EA1, Minolta 200mm f/2.8 HS APO, all shot at f/4. #1 cropped at about 25% magnification, #2 at about 45%, #3 at about 80%.

This camera is incredible. Even at ISO400 I can get jpegs that are both clean enough and detailed enough to crop at 100% magnification if I need to. Sony really got it right with this one.

Hi there, wondering if the bros can help me with this query on AF. When I use the flexi-mode, I can move the focus box to where I want it and it will turn green to indicate in-focus. However, there are occasions when a big green box appears and the small box disappears. I would take it that it cannot focus at the particular spot but is able to on a wider scale. Am I correct in this assumption? It ususally happens in low light. Thks.

That's the focusing with AF illuminator at work. If not wrong, this means focusing was achieved with help of AF illuminator. You can disable this, just turn off the AF illuminator in the setup menu.

Thks for the info. It was great help.

Hey anyone experience handshake problems without image stabilizer? Now that I am using the a mount on nex 7... I feel like my pics have more instances of becoming blurry or am I not used to NeX...

Hi, how to change ISO settings 160 or 250 or something different value from 100,200, 400, 800 ect..
some review photos indicated that ISO 160, something like that but cant find any option for that.

Since you are using A mount lens on NEX system. Means you dont have Image stabilizer. Need to be more careful..watch your focal length and shutter speed and also shooting technique. So far im ok with my 2470 on Nex. Any longer.. highly advise to use a tripod.

Set to Auto ISO. Then play around with the shutter speed or aperture.
(Correct me if im wrong)

I am always on aperture mode. Already using the lowest stop point.

lowest stop point is not just the issue.. whats the shutter speed?
You are advise to use at least 1/focal length of shutter speed to avoid blur pictures (Especially important if you dont have Image stabilization)
Meaning if you shoot at 24mm.. you should be using shutter speeds like 1/36 at least. To be safe.

Then also..are you focusing on the right place? (or are you snapping even before focus is confirmed..what adapter you using)
and is your lens in good working condition?

Lowest stop point? Or could it be you're too close to your subject thus the DOF is thin?

Why not just post a pic here.

Nope, no problems. I get sharp shots with my tele lenses. If light is lacking, I dial up ISO on the NEX-7 so that my shutter speed is at least 2X the effective FL on anything 200mm or longer. Noise can be PP'd; blur can't. ;p I can get get sharp pics at slower speeds, but that formula generally guarantees me 100%.

Actually I sometimes find IS on my a900 to be a liability at middle speeds (1X FL or slightly slower when using tele lenses), as it seems that the motion sensor guesses wrong. IS works best for me at absurdly slow shutter speeds.
