Yah ! ...if you set the eye-detect AF feature on and the camera senses your chest.

this is what I hate with that feature :-( its actually nice coz when you peak at the EVF it's already focus but in this instance when you're carrying the cam using neck strap your cam keeps on focusing thus draining your battery faster. :-( so I off this feature and will just turn it on when needed.

That's when you are using the LA-EA2 Mount Adaptor.

But I am just using E-mount lens & the auto focus will happened even without pressing the shutter released button. Read here it's normal as it's called pre-focus.

question about autofocus on the nex 7: Sony NEX Talk Forum: Digital Photography Review

Can it be disable ?

The operation is the same with or without the LA-EA2.

Do you mean that if you just put your camera on the table (without anything closer than 5" to the EVF and the camera AF by itself ?
The only thing I can think of which will cause that is if you have face-detect turn on or you're using the follow focus thingy.

Yeah, whenever I just point my Nex 7 to anything. It will auto focus by itself. I tried quite a few setting but look like it's still happening.

I did attend the free lecture conducted by SDW & asked the lecturer but he also quite surprise it's happening.

Maybe you can tried & confirmed....................:)

What mode are you in? Aperature mode?

Can you try if it auto focus in Shutter mode?

Based on the Nex(es) that I owned, they will auto focus by themselves. I would have preferred that Sony provide an option to enable/disable this feature in the next firmware update. Panny and olympus is off by default and allows you to enable this full time autofocus in menu.

I dont like feature as it will sort of interfere with the focusing when I half press shutter. For example, I might take a shot, then wait for my son to make funny face again. But as I am using f1.8, and my son head is rather close to camera, hence, there is a chance that the eyes are not sharp while somewhere else on face is sharp. So, I cant really half press shutter to lock focus as he will be moving around. So, when I want to take shot, the full-time autofocus kicks in and trying to focus, and this will cause the whole focusing process to take longer. Add in factors like low light to cdaf, it will just make it worse.

I can understand that Sony doesn't offr option to switch this off for the nex3 and 5s, but the 7 is marketed as professional, shouldnt it offer the option to disable it?

Any NeX 7 users with the kit lens? Can you guys check where is the kit lens made in? Mine is from thailand but when I go to Sony style, the test set indicate that the lens is made in japan

I just checked with the Sony style guys. They said that the set should be made in thailand. Test set in japan

Look like it's does not matter what mode I set to. Even when I set to MF, it's will still do so for u.

I just noticed that even if u set to MF, it's will still AF by itself.

Question is will it caused any focusing problem ? :dunno:

has it caused any focusing problems or failures in your usage so far ? it is not as if it will af and lock on its own , the camera gradually arrives at focus. Pressing the shutter will keep you in control of the focus lock.

And I doubt the NEX 7 is that much slower in AF. Not the fastest in the market, but AF on its own is still responsive and fast. So I am trying hard to see how this will make AF slower.

I am using sigma 30mm. The focus only hunt when i set it to aperture mode. When it is in Shutter mode, I do not see my nex 7 auto focus.

Thats why its not a focus hunting behaviour. Its more subtle kind of slow focus across 3 seconds. You can do an experiment, by leaving the camera on the table, you will observe that the liveview will slowly gain focus onto the mid point. The speed is totally different from the focusing we get when we press the shutter release button. I dont think this poses issues other than using up more battery.

So far so good.

Yet to try more when camera on tripod.....................:)

Hi,

been planning to get this or nex 5n. I understand that this one is problematic with wide angle ones. I wanted to buy it exclusively for wide angle m mount lense(s). I read that it can be fixed using cornerfix for stills, but havent seen any notes on if the colour fringing issue is present with the videos as well?

Can someone please confirm this or perhaps share a link? (I tried searching but couldnt find a reference for it)

You should get the 5n then . There are purple fringing with the symmetrical Leica wide angle lens used on the nex7, due to light fall offs ar the extreme corners, which can be removed using corner fix.
Video should be fine as it is continually capturing the light source, but yet to try it as I don't have a wide m mount lens to validate as well
