Because the 24mp sensor isnt optimized for manual with symmetrical lens design. Doesnt have the microlens on the sensor like NEX5n. The M9 also suffers from the same problem initially, but they were able to do lens profile in the firmware to correct the light falloff problem.

yup, spot on. use Vinyl sticker. The adhesive is not corrosive & won't leave residue.
This is one way to get black lens. Also importantly it protects the surface of the lens barrel. Help protects the value if you intend to sell the lens later on.

Don't use tape, the adhesive in long run will mess up your lens.

try get the scraps vinyl sheet from the Vinyl printers shop from ground floor. Cheaper if not free.
