Much of the recent threads have been on discussing the various new bodies like the NEX and the A33/A55. But to get good pics, the body is only part of it and arguably the more important part is the lens (off course the most important is the photographer)

So I thought of starting a thread of pictures showcasing the IQ of a specifc lens, in this case the humble 55-200 (non-SAM version). This should be helpful for all those who are thinking and deciding about what lens to buy. All others are invited to post their pics taken with this lens. Comments are welcome.

both same settings at 60mm focal length to do comparison.
One of the pic is from SAL1680Z while other is with SAL55200 SAM.
Can you see any difference?

Sorry abt the top pic which is slightly slanted and have a river taxi causing a blur in the water.

there's actually a database at dyxum.com. maybe you can also contribute there...

since you own the 70-300G as well, can I ask if you feel the IQ difference worth the weight and price between the two ?

I read from some a mount lens review site, 55-200 / SAM are really good performer ( some mentioned better than beercan )

considering a telephoto lens, do not oftenly use but would like to have the tele end range covered.

The 55-200mm looks good. definitely will recommend my friend who just bought a A55.

So far I has no complaint for my 70300G, it's sharp on wide open, longer 100mm - more usable on the zoo, and weight not yet a problem. So at the end for 70300G, you pay extra for silent SSM, longer range and higher quality of glass.
My personal choice for 55200 and beercan (as I has these 2 before), I will choose beercan. 55200 is great lens for value, but on another side beercan get his legendary status for reasons.
For buddies who just want to try telephoto lens, 55200 is a great choice. It's cheap and you can found it easily, it's also a great performer. If you more serious to telephoto, a 70300G is a great choice.

Looks roughly the same to me.

I am not a member of dyxum although I do go there to do research before I buy any lens. Maybe I should sign up as a member and contribute these pics there. Thanks for your suggestion. :)

when you use kit lens 18-70 and CZ 24-70 to this kind of pics, you will not notice the difference :dunno:

when comparing lens IQ, normally i see they did it in pixel peep way. then only can notice the differences
