Photozone: Most current NEX lenses are not good enough for the NEX-7!

There are better zooms if you are ready to use adapter to maximise those wide range of A mount lenses.

For E mount without adapter, there are not many choices - just either 18-200, or 55-210, or the tamron one. All 3 are good zooms for Nex, but none can maximise the Nex 7 resolution. Still good too considering the range and and price, just that you won't be able to get pin-sharp pictures from Zeiss, Voigt and Leica.

Hey guys I have read some reviews of the SEL 18-200mm seems to be one of the good zooms thy hv for The nex7 . Anyone tried tt? Its pretty ex comparing to other makes.

Just got d Sigma 19mm f2.8, gonna test it this weekend. Reviews are good on this lens for NEX 7.

I also got d 19mm Sigma for NEX 7 last week. Tried both the 19 and 30 on the shop, but decided on the 19 as not used to the 30mm FOV...

How r u liking the 19mm? Intend it for landscape shooting. Havent try it yet, possibly some sunset shots this weekend...

Still have no time for serious shooting... tried a few shots already but haven't pixel-peeping yet.. :p
My other lenses are the 50 OSS and 18-200, but haven't compare yet

Oh yes, 18-200... Dunno if its good? already got d kit covering 18-55... any other better telephoto lens on E Mount?

So can I ask for recommendation for a SERIOUSLY good wide angle lens? Sigma 19mm or the CV Heliar?

U can google on the review on the Sigma 19mm f2.8 for NEX system. If 19mm is wide for u tat is. Cheers. I dunno abt CV Heliar....

I think the LA-EA2 was the best purchase decision i ever made, it really opened up my lens options. I was very happy that there were lower-end Zeiss and 'G' lenses available, having been used to Canon's 'L' series during my DSLR days. CSC format cameras are really a Godsend, now we can tot our photo gears wherever we go w/o the back aches!

Agreed!!! With my Ea2, most likely I will settle down with these 3 lenses. Sigma 10-20, sal35f1.8 and Tammy 60!! I like landscape and portrait , so Ea2 let me access to these cheap but very good lens:)

Ok ok.... Lets me go hunt down these stuffs! Thanx for all the advises, keep it coming guys!

Just picked up a new set of CZ24, and you are right that it is quite close to the 35mm Biogon in the corners!

Think the last set that I sold away has problem and thus it is not as sharp as this current set I just bought. This new set is way sharper and I am really happy!

Have also bought the Novoflex adapter which is alot better quality than the Kipon that I used to have. The Zeiss 35mm Biogon and the Voigtlander 35mm F1.2 using the Novoflex M-to-Nex adapter looks really solid and it is tight fitting just like made to order. No more movement of the lens on the Nex 7 body when using Novoflex. Near to $300 compared to the cheaper Kipon, but the quality is really made like a tank (Germany made)!

Zeiss 35mm is really nice on the Nex 7 as the sharpness is consistent from centre to corner, and sharper than CZ24 when wide open, even at F2. CZ24 will be really good for general walk around lens though, with very nice match to the Nex 7 body.

I quite liked the Zeiss 35mm F2 Biogon on the NEX-7, but one problem was the minimum focus distance of 0.7m, which is over 2ft. Most of the Zeiss and Leica M-mount rangefinder lenses have this problem. Can't use it to say shoot food on the table, but close portraits are OK. The Zeiss 24mm 1.8 E-mount is an extremely versatile lens, being able to shoot as close as 0.16m or about 6 inches, almost macro distances. The CZ24mm 1.8 is as sharp as the 35mm Biogon in the corners when stopped down to about F5.6, which is why it is so versatile.

i was at Alan Photo the other day and if i remember correctly, the guy tried to sell me the Zeiss 35mm Biogon for M-mount for 1.6k thereabouts.

is that the going price for a new lens?

There's quite a range in the price of this lens.

You can try checking with another 2 shops for better price though, as Alan Photo may not be the cheapest. Zeiss are cheaper at 2 common shops, which I will not list here.

U guys are super poisonous... Pls PM me the shop names too.. Thanks... Biogon!!!

Before you guys go ahead and BBB.... a few things to consider, given the costs:

The price is quite close between 3 top lenses (Zeiss Biogon 35mm F2, Voigtlander 35mm F1.2, Carl Zeiss 24mm F1.8).

From lower price to higher:
CZ24>CZ35>CV35

CZ24 F1.8:
- has AF and it is a F1.8
- sharp lens which is better than all other kit lenses, but not as sharp as Zeiss 35mm or Voigtlander 35mm F1.2
- Can only be used on Nex - cannot be used on other bodies

CZ35 F2 Biogon:
- Sharper than CZ24, but has obvious magenta casting
- smallest lens of the 3 lenses
- can be used on other bodies with different adapter since it is a M mount manual lens

CV35 F1.2 Nokton V2:
- Sharper than CV35 Biogon from F2 onwards, no visible magenta casting. F1.4 is a plus and it is very sharp at F1.4. At F1.2 it is still useful with nice glow and superb for night shots
- largest lens of the 3 lenses, and the most highly priced with best quality built.
- can be used on other bodies with different adapter since it is a M mount manual lens

About similar amount of money to be spent, better compare before you buy.

My Voigtlander 35mm F1.2 V2 stays on the Nex 7 most of the time, and the Zeiss 35mm F2 Biogon is only used with my M9, as Voigtlander 35mm seems more well balanced on the Nex 7 with better IQ.

so between the 2 (CZ Biogon and Voigtlander), which one gives the best OOF area and "3D popping out" effect?
