Sunrise at Penang Pengkalan Weld looking across at Butterworth

1st Attempt: black card too late ! exposure too short !

Many attempts later : black card technique, 50seconds vs 3 seconds

Great attempt. Nice colors too. K-01 or K30?

Thanks. Kr w DA15mm f9.0 hard black card from Popular

Greetings seniors, a newbie here using a Kx and kit lens DAL 18-55 and DAL 50-200.

I am seeking input on what to do with the gear because I still feel that the pictures taken are somewhat not quite as I expected.
All pictures are taken during a sunny midday with DAL 50-200 at about 200mm, RAW, editing done are on crop, scaling, brightness and contrast.
Would these edited pictures sufficient or unedited picture would provide a better clue as to what I can do better?

1. The first one somehow lacks details to the butterfly and the flower, is it because I have a too narrow dof and unable to get a proper focus or is it because I was not using a macro lens? or is there a better setting so that I can get more details? (without losing the bokeh)

2. The second ones got more details but somehow the colour becomes rather dull (as compared to the third one) but got a nice bokeh.

3. The third picture have a more pop out colour but lost most of the details and the bokeh.

Thank you beforehand for your inputs.

HI, I am no expert, still learning, my two cents worth observation and comments.

Butterfly 1,2,3 all seemed shot with same f5.6, hence the DOF should be the same, but perhaps Butterfly 3. the background leaves were nearer to the butterfly compare to in 1,2 , so Bokeh seemed not as nice.

Butterfly 1, is not as sharp hence lost of details, maybe the Butterfly was sitting on a moving flower stalk.

Butterfly 2 seemed under exposed, at 1/1000 of a sec, otherwise , I think is quite sharp and details could be captured better if add +1 exposure using+/- button.

Butterfly 3 at 1/320 is best details and exposure, it is very sharp already for a zoom lens.

Nice photos. It would be good if you could include details of camera model and lens used

Nice photos, love the 3rd one.
For 1st 2, great technique and effect, just thought the fg and bg both fighting for attention though.
