Errr I thought its the other way around - FB resizing makes the photos softer?

The image on my harddisk is more similar to FB version. Flickr version is over sharpened.

I always upload resized photos to Flickr and post the original version uploaded. This will ensure that viewers see exactly what you want them to see (well, ignoring them having crappy or uncalibrated monitors, which you can't control anyways).

how interesting. is this a pro account? I usually have the opposite problem. the actual pics on my computer is usually much sharper than that on flickr and FB (in that order).

It is possible that he is uploading the full size, which means Flickr will resize for him. And yes, their resizing algorithm seems to involve some sharpening.

Yes, I uploaded 1200 x 796, but largest on flickr I can access is 1024 x 680

If you have a free account, no one (including you) can access your original file

so that means for free account, even when i upload 1024 or 800, flickr will still compress and sharpen it?

Hmm.. maybe that explains why my recent photos in flickr uploaded 1024x800 seems oversharpened. Pls see my Kanchanaburi post under Travel Photography. Any advice is appreciated
