Photos from 8D7N Hanoi Halong Bay & Sapa Valley Photography Trek

Second night at Sapa, I took my camera out. The heavy mist makes for good diffuse lighting.

The couple goes window shopping - except the shops have no windows.
that is really nice!

T R A V E L O G U E ~ Day 7 - Cat Cat Village

Walking further down the valley, we passed by a forest conservation sation, and walked down a long long long flight of steps to Cat Cat Village and ultimately,
the highlight of the day - the Waterfall at Cat Cat Village.

limwhow #195

A simple record shot for all of us to remember.

We were all enjoying our walk down to Cat Cat Village, when suddently...
Adrian, in a low tone of voice but with a sense of urgency, said to all:
"Everyone... Right ahead, target approaching!"
Oh, it was a classic Red Dzao lady! The subject that we were all searching high and low to capture!

I believe stevepow has a picture of this Red Dzao lady (Red Dzao is another minority tribe characterised by a red head scarf and the
practice of shaving away their eye brows and forehead hair.)
I left the people at the side of the photo un-crpped to frame her and to show
that she was walking up while they were walking down.

Another record shot only.

This interesting hotel was located at the edge of Sapa Town.
Quaint little place. Out of the way and, in my opinion, good for people who want a nice, quiet getaway.
Shown here with our guide Ms Pang.

It was indeed still a misty morning with light drizzle.
And a nice, relaxing walk brought us to various view points with lovely scenery.
Here we have divinemoment and Ms Pang walking leaisurely down the valley.
I like divinemoment's all-weather, all-purpose World Cup windbreaker.
I should have brought a windbreaker instead of the stuffy poncho. Clever man, divinemoment!

As we walked down the steps, our presence was sensed almost immediately by the children of the village.
With real excitement, they ran out of their houses and up the steps toward us.

limwhow #201

It was still drizzling and the rain drops still could be seen in many of our photos.
Here, the children looked at us and we looked at them didn't know what to do.
Until some kind soul among us started giving them some biscuits - I think it was Jim... wasn't it?

Wah, this cute little girl flashed her billion Dong smile with the goodies in her hand!

As always, every one was way ahead already, leaving me behind.
Adrian suddenly heard the sound of tiny foot steps behind us.
"Quick, look behind you!" he said.
Waaaahhhhh... a triplet of piglets scampering down!
They must have sensed us too!

lmwhow #204

Hmmm... suddenly they stopped in their path. Smelled something fishy? Hahaha...

Soon, the goats came...

... and the buffalos came too...
We must have been hell of a famous, we from SgTrekker!

I saw a nice, smiling farmer lady plating rice.
In her local dialect, she was remarking to her fellow farmers that her boots are so dirty.
In a blink of an eye, she started washing them with a bunch of stalks - splash, went the muddy water!
[Sorry for the typo mistake in the label... too excited liao!]

Finally we have arrived at the Waterfall!

limwhow #211

With palpable anticipation of what awaited us ahead, we crossed the Si Bridge.
I was just a few steps behind Jim, and I thought I'd just take a snap of him crossing the bridge.
And here it is, the bridge with all its glory of cobwebs on the top part.

Despite the apparent variety of equipment I had on me, I must humbly admit that my waterfall shots weren't too good.
My main waterfall shots were a little over-exposed, with many water droplets visible, water droplets from the filters and lens.
So here I present a smaller, minor, subsidiary waterfall.
The big, main waterfall I am sure many of my team members have much better shots - like what stevepow has shown

limwhow #213

It is a happy moment for all of us, finally arriving at our highlight of the day.
A well-deserved rest with a friendly chit chat to get us ready for the next climb back up...

wanted to jump off the railings to look for it. Hahahaahaa.....
Guess what?!
Haha, it was ChubbyKei who kept it for him. Oh mine, oh dear....hahahaahaa....

T R A V E L O G U E ~ Day 7 - Back from Cat Cat Village

Adrian promised all a motorbike ride from half way up the valley back to the hotel.
We were thinking very hard how to configure our many many equipment so as not to
have them dangle about as we ride up the slope.

limwhow #214

From the back of the pack, I caught sight of our two gentle ladies smiling.
I wondered what they were talking about as I pressed the shutter...

4713733201_2e86e7d6d9_b.jpg

limwhow #215

Finally! We were there at the house with all the bricks strewn around - our signal that
two-wheeled help is at hand!

limwhow #216

The motorbikers were urging us to take their bikes.
I wasn't sure about the others, but I was without a helmet as I gingerly held on to the seat of the bike.
My first time on a small motorbike, up an incline slope with rocky, muddy, watery road - without a helmet.
The motorcyclist deftly turned left and right to avoid various obstacles on the road...
... and my heart beat kept missing...
Goodness... quite an experience for me. Hehehe...

4713750477_a2f4ac4c2e_b.jpg

In classic SgTrekker fashion, Adrian said to us:
"Wah, on this trip we can all boast of having taken almost all means of transportation - air plane, minibus, sampans, bum boats, Junk cruise, motorbikes and trains!"
An certainly he had a real good point there.

So stylo... this monochromatic rendition.
Good job, Helen!

And this... the right moment as she was looking right into your camera.
It was really dark inside this house, and I am sure you shot this with high ISO.
No noise at all yah, Helen!;)

4713651622_7cac0cb2e4_b.jpg

I like the sharpness and good bokeh of this
And also makes me recall my childhood's story of the three little pigs and the big bad wolf

4714079240_ed9823898f_b.jpg

Yes gonna retire here and have that god granddaughter by my side
But my house will be made of reinforced concrete...can't have the big bad wolf to blow it down

4713688856_834cd3e138_b.jpg

' No, gonna stick with my nikki, at least I don't need to wrap like siao...'

Anyway thanks limwhow and serene for those nice pix
