Doc, I nearly laughed off my chair. All of us were really over zealous in the pursuit of an uncommon subject which is so common to them.

T R A V E L O G U E ~ Day 5 Sapa Town

A night of rumbling train journey northwards from Hanoi brought us to the gateway town of Lao Cai (pronounced as Lao Kai, and not to be confused with Lao Chai Village at Sapa).
It was nice and cool, and still rather dark at Lao Cai as it was only 5am in the morning.
Our minibus picked us up and headed straight up to Sapa Town.

Here are a couple of record shots of Lao Cai Town.

An hour's ride, plus the little delay in our attempt to shoot the children riding a water buffalo, found us all at Sapa Global Hotel.
This hotel is apparently newer, and is nested right at the southern part of Sapa Town.
It's not bad. Has got nice big beds and has warm water
for us to shower with.... well, as long as one doesn't attempt to shower during one of those frequent power cuts throughout a day.
Here is Ms Trang, the very friendly reception lady, assisting us in checking in.

Breakfast at Sapa Global Hotel was very welcomed because we were hungry after a long ride.

The Black Hmong from Sapa.
Actually, the comb they wore it on the head meant they are married.

On this cold, rainy, wet, misty, foggy morning at Sapa Town, we started our 12km trek from Sapa to Lao Cai Village through Y Linh Ho Village, both Black Hmong villages, all the way to Ta Van Village, which was a Dzay village.
Both Black Hmong and Dzay are some of the minority tribes found in northern Indochina.
Here we were, closely followed by a pack of Black Hmong ladies on our way down.

At one stage the rain got so heavy that I thought I could vaguely hear Adrian muttering behind me something like:
"... if this rain doesn't stop, I will have to cancel this trek and call it off...".
Alamak... siong ah.
What a start to our Sapa trip...

On our way walking down to the valley, we saw many more of such scene of the villages herding their buffalos along.

I am sure all of us would have seen and attempted to shoot this scene in the progessively worsening rain.
Luckily all of us brought our poncho and Adrian has got water-proofing done for our camera equipment...

Looking back, I really find it difficult to shoot the scenery.
Everything was misty white...

The 3rd largest Hang Sung Sot caves amongst the 3. As the saying goes, there is light at the end of the tunnel.

This young girl came right in front of me with the look of her eyes pleading at me...
Bought a stick from her for VND 10,000 and it came in pretty useful, beside as support during the trek but used by another as a monopod as well:bsmilie:

Adrian brought us to the worker's quarter. It has many small rooms, all linked by a dark long alley. Each room appears to house a few workers to the brink. As I walked into the cold dark alley, I peeked at every room as I passed in the hope of some good snap shots but there was none.

Never gave up, alas, as I reached the very last room, seems like a "divine moment" having this old lady set up for me. The door half ajar served as good framing with connotation of peeping. In fact truly I was.

She seems preparing to meet her mate !!
