hi, just some heads up for u guys.
try to reach SR as early as possible.
u guys can go to angkor wat for sunset on the same day of arrival and best of all, u dont need temple pass as long as u all reach angkor wat after 5pm.

i signed up with www.peaceofangkor.com, the guide Ta (yup, his name is Ta) is good. he arranged the route of the visit to the temples according to the location of the sun.
u wont want to be shooting the beautiful angkor wat against the sun in this trip.

Thanks Scud, thats some good inputs for newbies like us....

Hey scud. Really thanks! But too bad all flights on tht week we are going depart only at 4.30 pm. Unless we go to Phnom Penh 1st. Something to consider during the meeting this Sat.

Ok set. This Saturday 3.30pm at cityhall Mac

Hi I may not be able to make it to the meeting this SAT day, because of some other appointments, however I will try my best to make it. Please post the minutes in CS. Let me know when are you planning to book the tickets. BTW does any one know the visa policy in these two places for Indian passport holders?

Double? Where do we really want to go. He has been replying me quite promptly which I think thts good service. Here's his latest email.

"Dear Shahrie,

I have got the experience from 3 groups , they teach me about this.
Please wait for my Programs with a patience. I am very busy at the end of this month ( July 2011). I have got many group who arrived in our country.

you all can also get the hotel to arrange for pickup from & to airport. they may charge u a small fee but u can ask them to waive it since u are staying with them & taking up land package with them.

also ask if they will supply unlimited daily drinking water, normally bottled mineral water. do not drink from tap. bring some charcoal tablet just in case. another thing is try to have small denomination of USD.

Scud bro. It is so nice of you to give advise on these things. Truthfully, I have not been out of Singapore for the past 3 years maybe at most to JB only and this is the last getaway for me (alone, photography and stuff) before I get married next yr. I am really looking forward for this and try my best to get the best for everyone. Seniors like nemesis, weisiong, scud, others, thank you for your time and inputs. Furthermore we have great photographers coming with us like, Levee, sf_kang, Subhasish, batthousai and others as well, itll be an exciting journey. Looking forward for this.

If everything is ok, we might book our tix this Sat itself. We'll see how it goes.

@Valance, bro, will you be bringing your lappie this Sat? If not I'll bring mine but a bit slow lah. I will bring printouts, proposed itineraries and maybe some photos too. See you guys there.

Sorry, cannot go due to job related issues. hope to go next time!

I just came back from Siem Reap. Following tips to share with you all.

I flew by Jetstar and arrived abt 4pm SR time. Took a taxi USD$7 to hotel at Tara Angkor. 4 star hotel at SGD$53 a night. Pretty decent with pool to use.
Once you arrive, you should wait till about 5pm, head to ticket counter at Angkor to buy a 1/3day pass. USD $20/40. If you buy at 5pm, you can go in for today and tomorrow. Meaning 1 free sunset for you.
Also, I think visiting the Ankor at 7-10am, and 3-6pm would be ideal as the lighting will be perfect. Shooting at noon doesn't produce very nice golden sunlight on the walls.

Remember to wear non sleeveless to Angkor if you want to climb to the top of Angkor. They disallowed me as I was wearing a singlet. Tuktuk man can be hired at USD15 for whole day. They just send you wherever you want to go. Pay at the end of day. You might not want to cycle to Angkor, as it should be 12km one way. When it rains, even worse. And the bicycles are not MTB kind.

Sadly, I only visited Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom, Bayon, Elephant Terrace for a while and Ta Phrom (Tomb Raider). Will go back after Sep again to leave no temples unturned. The locals also told me Sep-Dec is best to go as it is supposedly raining season now.

So in between at noon, you can go for a dip or stay in hotel. It is pretty hot out there. From my hotel to Pub St is abt USD$2. Tuktuks will quote you higher if they know you stay at an expensive hotel. But they are more desperate for our business. Pub St has nth much in the noon, only restaurants open, quite costly. You got to explore the minor roads for local eats, like iced coffee or fried yellow noodles. There is one cafe called Masterfood, pretty decent pork noodle soup.

I did not go to Phnom Penh for Killing Fields and S21 prison as it is a bus ride 5hrs away. If you can do a flight stopover, it is much better. So remaining in SR, i booked a tour at Pub St to Tonle Sap lake for sunset. USD$15 should be the lowest.

Tonle Sap they will bring you to the floating market, see where the villages live on the lake. The kids will come in tubs, showing you their snake show or frog show and asking for a dollar. I'm against giving though.

Nightlife nothing much, just massages nightly. Cheapest you can find is USD$5 for real good ones.

Ask me anything, I be glad to share.

Hey beautiful!

Thank you for your insights. Anyway, do you use a guide there? Is it recommended to use one or we could just travel around on our own?
