Photographing girls (strangers) on the streets

hint hint: like all the boys and girsl in courtship, they usually appear together physically or electronically.... :bsmilie:

my dear............ you are so cheeky!:heart: :bsmilie:

You  catchlights? o.O

There something riotvan should know about?

i am courting him, therefore we will appear together electronically.

And whats ur reason for disallowing ur bf from taking photos of girls if he isnt going to do anything bad?

Im pretty sure u got a very good reason behind it?

well, why should he shoot xmm only in the name of street photography?

besides, he doesn't need to shoot xmm to get good street photos. i personally think he takes pretty decent street shots.

i don't think any girl wants their boyfriend to have a folder of pretty xmms from the streets :bsmilie:

and yes, why only xmm?

i am pretty sure some open-minded males here would not mind their girlfriends asking random males on the street for nude shots.

after all, not doing anything bad, right? :) it's just 30-40 minutes of looking at random guys naked, mmmmmmm.

Just wondering, has anyone ever tried to approach girls on the streets to take photographs of them? I mean local XMMs, not foreigners.

Anyone has positive experiences to share with regards to approaching local girls and XMMs?

Is your preference only shooting XMMs or all sorts of street photography? Guess u mean it is mostly the XMMs that reject your requests. Alot of street photographers actually 'stalk' their subjects for streets just to capture the right moment. Shoot & ask later :)

Some even ask couples to pose & kiss for them... and went on to became an iconic photo in itself

Some 50 yrs ago...

you want to know the truth? can you handle the truth? :bsmilie:

anyway, I smell troubles...

Generally I feel foreigners here wouldnt mind being photographed, but local girls will probably reject I guess, if u approach them for no reasons and wanna take photos of them. Unless the photographer is a female maybe got chance...

I thought of asking my gf to help me approach girls :bsmilie: cos I think the chances will probably be higher if a female approaches them, but my gf too shy to approach strangers :(

i have no problems taking pictures of strangers.

i just wear a tshirt "official photographer for seventeen magazine"

why only XMM? in the name of street photography? you think guys not willing to pose? or you just not interested to have photos of guys?

come on.......

if most of your photos is xmm on the street, even all of them you have not meet before, that is not call street photography.

your street photography subjects should be come in all size all shape all age group, and no preference on gender, with the right mind set, it will easier to approach people, of course it will still not 100%, but people can tell your sincerity.

anyway, there is a photography project call "100 strangers" go google the flickr group, there is a lot of sharing of how to approach strangers on the street.

U totally misunderstood my post.

I mean to say i hv no trouble taking photos of guys, just 2 weeks ago i saw some teens playing football and 2 of them are wearing chelsea jersey so i asked to take their photo (im chelsea fan) and they gladly agree.

Please read properly. I didnt say only shoot xmm or girls. I said only girls will reject a stranger asking permission to shoot them, guys usually is ok with it thus i never include guys in the topic.

have you tried taking pictures of old men in singapore? :)

I think you should find out who riotvan's bf is first ;)

im not interested to find out, but Im glad she isnt Dannysantos' gf though, cos i love his photos and i'll be pretty sad if he's only allow to take guy pictures and no girls :bsmilie:

Only candid shots.

I usually prefer to take young people, kids and babies.

no offends to older folks btw, just my preference.

Ok, there are many reasons for girls to reject, I don't see anything wrong with that... maybe you want to reexamine how you approach your subjects.

btw, just let you know that taking candid photos of minors without seeking permission from parents is spell disasters.

:bsmilie: when dannysantos first started out, i made a comment on his thread that he was taking a disproportionately huge amount of female shots rather than male.

he got offended despite pretending to be cool with it, so i removed the post.

anyways, this is how street photography in singapore is developing. i guess that's how it is. we will never have our:

sakura-love
matt stuart
hin chua
rui palha
david solomons
trent parke
nick turpin

to name a few. we will just have a load of people asking for street portraits and passing it off as street photography.

anyhow, from this statement, i can tell what you're looking for. the best advice is, you want to go the way of dannysantos.... just build up a thick skin. just ask. if you ask enough girls, you will somehow understand how to handle people...... you will know what to ask, how to ask... your success rate will improve.

but please, at least do not call it street photography. it is not that to me. have a nice day. last post here.

Maybe you should tell you potenial subject your primary intention and be sincere.

Other than Dannysantos' project. Tupi guy also doing a long running "dream" project, asking stranger of all life to pose for him.

Both are successful because they are sincere when approaching strangers. :)
