i'm going to a small county in the Hunan area. but i will be travelling in a group so it'd be quite difficult for me to get up close.. i have a 28-300 zoom that isnt very sharp and a nikon 18-70 kit lens.. which one would you recommend i use? should i give up the sharpness for the range? or force myself to pluck up the courage and go in close?
looking to do people shots.. kinda like..highlighting their way of life, the more tender moments etc.. any tips? besides practice, haha. i know the only way to improve is that. but..other than that? thanks haha=) kinda noob.
btw, about your "feel" of the image, its up to me to "see" and "assess" what i think it feels like right? as in..with the added context and all? just checking. thanks. =)
Take the challenge as you never know that you could be gifted in this genre of photography.
I would use the 18-70mm if I do not have a WA lens.
You are welcome to pick up whatever I had shared in this forum
Feel, Anticipate, Aim and Shoot (FAAS)
A subject and its environment can emit a “feel” in us; we can also generate a “feel” on it too.
The emotion sometimes comes so strong on us that we wish to capture it and share with others.
Try to avoid shooting people that just happen to turn around and look or stare at you. Be confident
and composed in spirit when you shooting people and just be prepared to have some rude encounters.
Be polite but thick skinned.
Safety comes first! If you sense that the location or people are rude in that location, don’t venture into it.
The right moment comes only in a split of second; anticipation and timing is equally important.
No Replay is possible as in the Model or Salon shoot. Decide your cam setting at this moment too.
Aiming is a time when you start to decide the subjects, environment that you would like to include in
you photo. Composition comes very quick at this moment just before you click to execute the shoot.
Good lighting helps much when shooting portraits. I do chance on opportunity to shoot people even in
a moody wet or snowing weather too.
A good "People & Street" photo doesn’t needs many words to explain it.
I find it hard to express in words about what is “feel’.Maybe with the comparison of these 2 pix can helps
Which pix impress you more?Pix 1 or Pix 2? Why? let me hear from you.
You might have the answer for "feel " after analyze it. Hope this helps.
Most of all, enjoy your trip..
