In the meanwhile, do start thinking of what you plan to shoot.
While there is definitely a place for random shots, the reality is most entries that win contests are often not left to chance but the result of deliberate planning.

1. Photo has to be taken on 26 Feb 2011 between 0:00am to 11:59pm
2. Photo has to be submitted by 03 Mar 2011 by 11:59pm
3. Short listed photos will be posted for poll on 06 Mar 2011
4. Poll closes on 12 Mar 2011 at 11:59PM
5. Winner announcement on 13 Mar 2011
6. Price presentation on 19 Mar 2011 -- our next Pentax Outing Date

This contest is both a showcase of the photographer's skill and the camera's capability.
In order not to submit run-of-the mill snapshots, here's a couple of tips to consider:

Your photos should engage the viewer.
It should have a clear focus, subject or message that you want to convey.
Try to incorporate an element of surprise.
Showcase your technical skills but don't get too hung up on it.
Get creative and avoid the "me too" kind of images.
Shoot both variety and quantity.
Find fresh vantage points.
Find something interesting that can make people laugh.
Most importantly have fun shooting.
