Pentaxians Feb 26, 2011 outing - Photo Contest: Life In Our City

Perhaps basic processing allowed like contrast & brightness???
Most of us are not the software whiz type leh.:bsmilie:

You sure can process the photo, as long as you have the original ones to back it up ;)

No, there won't be a physical gathering this round, but you are welcome to form a small group so you can go out for some fun shooting, at least can model for each other ;)

so are we going to have our Feb non photo contest outing?

It's time for our monthly outing again. As promised during last outing, we'd have a photo contest this month. This is our very first photo contest. We will try to organize one every year from now on.

You can interpret the theme anyway you like

The guidelines:
This is a self-organized photo contest, the committees are a few oldies here. So every Pentaxian can participate, including the committee members and Emjay staff.
The contest winners will be purely based on online polls, but the shortlisted ones will be decided by the the panel. Please don't post your photos anywhere before the contest ends, so we can keep the contest anonymous. I'll consolidate all the photos submitted, and post the shortlisted ones under one thread myself.

------------------
There won't be a physical gathering this round. But you are welcome to make some small groups by yourselves. Just go out and shoot for fun.

That's all for now. We'll work out the details later, and update here.

Good luck to all Pentaxians!

Kudos to Emjay and all the people organizing/judging the contest.

Just curious, why is the shooting schedule only set for one day and not a month?
Anyway, I doubt I'll be joining since there's no 645D as the top prize. ;p

There are plenty of contests where all shots are to be taken on the same day.
Rather than having it over an extended period, this approach forces the photographer to plan beforehand and execute the shot. Also by doing this, Pentax shooters would be capturing a slice of life of people and places in Singapore on that particular day. I personally think this is more meaningful than having entries that could be some image that was taken earlier. So everyone's got to put their thinking caps on and decide what to shoot, where to shoot and what time to shoot. Everyone will be on the same level playing field.

darn... so much happening in Pentax camp...

this make me want to jump wagon... LOL

Yes..if not for the value-for-money great cameras and lenses, then for friendly Pentaxians that meet monthly for our photo outings. :)

Geting ready and counting down to 26th Feb Photo contest.

(Bringing thread to frontline attention ;))

Wow, interesting event. Thanks Emjay for the sponsorship.
If possible I would like to join a group and have fun. Not hoping for the prize, but participation is the key.
Looking forward to the short list photoes!

I was in emjay 3 days back for my sensor stain issue, having clocked shutter of 3 over K and spotted the stain.

I was given the 18-135 lens to test and it was awful fast in focusing. Its call DC 18-138. I supposed its direct currrent for (DC):bsmilie:, unsure why its call DC but the focusing speed is unlike all other pentax lenses. Its super fast and sharp as well. If anyone happen to be in peninsula plaza, at emjay office, please have a test. Kevin will be more than delighted to let you test it.:)

There are AC & DC.
For electonics gear, it works on DC supply (Direct Current)
The fast focusing speed is perhaps due to the lens construction, not on the DC.
Just imagine you are cycling up a slope on a bicycle with different gear ratio.

A high chance I cant participate due to work commitment. Of all months...sighed.

Contest runs from wee hours in the morning to late at night... surely can sneak in a couple of shots here and there.

Yes, it's a very good lens indeed. I'd been using mine during the CNY festival, took quite a few family photos w/ the lens alone :)

I have to say Pentax did a very lousy job on the naming. It's just too straight forward to be called a DC lens. Besides, Sigma calls their APSC lenses as DC lenses too

That's right. Just take your camera and snap a few shots anywhere you can/want. It's just for fun, isn't it

Since we want to see different kind of photos for the competition, better have guys spreading out around Singapore in stead of physically getting together like before. But I guess a few guys form a small group would be fun :)
