Pentax SMC FA 50mm f/1.4 Lens

Dunno why everyone falling over themselves to get the FA 50mm f/1.4..., must be lens of the month or something like that... :bsmilie:
At current local prices, I simply find it hard to justify buying it. Better to go with FA 43mm Limited or maybe even the "all-can do" DA 35mm Macro or FA 35mm. If really like this focal length, then save up some more for DA* 55mm.

If die, die must buy, then buying a used one overseas or online makes a helluva lot more sense. I remember paying not more than S$350 for all of the three brand new copies I once had, so to me S$546 or whatever is like carrot chop territory.
Maybe wait for SG dollar to rise and Yen to fall so import price hopefully lower but since got so many prepared to cough up at current pricing, I think that's a fat hope. :bsmilie:
Alternative is A 50mm f/1.4 still very reasonable on eBay...

The FA 50mm f/1.4 is one of the lens i sold off and never regret or missed it. :)

my FA43 is MIV..
honestly its still tack sharp...no gripes from me yet..QC is still maintained
I see. Seriously, I am not really worried abt the QC for MIV. I think its should be good as the other MIV DAs. MIJ is just that thing in me.

Just got the Pentax FA 50mm F1.4 this afternoon. Still learning to take some decent photos with it. Here are 3 samples that I took today... Feel free to comment. Thanks.

Enjoy the FA 50! It has some quirks, but can deliver some fantastic shots if used carefully

*Ignore my previous comments about white balance ahahaha, I realised that its my monitor setting that is wrong, not your photo*

It really is a Good street & Candid lens.

But hor, since I'm very used to MF already, FA50mm always in dry cabinet. lol. If I go out, I always bring out my Cosina 50mm f2.0 and Horus Bennu 50mm f1.7 both M lens.

IQ quite ok. But not as good as my Cosina. It gives a very milky background. which I like. But I still havent use it to full extent yet. Will give you more reviews once I use it.

maybe can share one picture for you i took with it. But its just a test2 pic. not yet serious. lol

Nice work.

But the one focusing on your son, I think the camera accidentally focus more on the T-shirt words. But it does show sharpness.

Yes. The sharpness of this lens is splendid. No regrets getting it...

This is some pic I'm using for my FA50mm 1.4, I only use it to shoot My Suzuki Character. Haha.
Pitured PPed and the grain was intentional.

You guys are like me when I first bought this lens. Try to shoot everything wide open :bsmilie: But very quickly realise that this lens performs best from about f2.2. Around f8.0, it is beautifully sharp.

At f1.4, the pic is just too soft, lacking contrast. The subject just doesn't "pop out". Since you guys have the k-x, you can up the ISO and stop down to say f2.8. You will be surprised with the significant improvement in your pic. Also at f1.4, the DOF is very very shallow. A very slight out of focus and the whole pic is blur blur.

IMHO, one will use f1.4 only if die die must get the pic in low light situation or if trying sometihing creative (which I have not worked out what that might be yet) :D

Anyway, enjoy exploring the character of this lens.

Try using a lens hood , as i read this lens is susceptible to flare with the sticking out front element, and yes it causes it to be soft , some say a hood works magic on this lens
