I'd take my bet with the new DA.
The F50/1.7 has hexagonal blades than can rear its ugly head in the OOF highlights every now and then.
The DA50 also benefits from newer coatings too.
Fengwei will probably come up with a lens comparison of sorts, so I'm optimistic.

Aperture ring are mainly for those who like to itchy hand here and there (including me ) for uses like reversed lens or old film cameras.
Its generally irrelevant to new users.
Even if the lens is used with an adapter on another brand MILC, the adapters do support aperture adjustments.



Anyway, for me, I'm just happy that a new and relatively cheap 50/1.8 option is now avaliable to Pentax users.

As JK said, I'd bet the new 50/1.8 would beat F50/1.7 easily. It has SP (Super Protect) coating, round shape diaphragm blades, and it's 20 years newer. Besides, the F50/1.7 is one of those over hyped lenses imo. I'd take the FA50/1.7 anytime if given the chioce. And now I'd go for the DA50/1.8 if I'm looking for a fast AF 50mm lens

The 35/2.4 is a plastic wonder, I'm sure this new DA50/1.8 would be a great performer too.

It's brand new w/ full warranty. Unboxed means it's part of a camera/lens kit. The webstore sells the kit separately, thus lower price. But the camera/lens are brand new w/ full official warranty.
