Interesting up close images that you've posted.
I'm just wondering why your black and white images are a little hard to look at in my opinion.
Perhaps it's your post processing where it seems you're going for a high contrast look. Don't know if you're simulating a red filter effect but your dark tones are pushed to full black with loss of detail in the shadows and you're losing subtle shades of grey. For the people's skin tones, it looks like your processing uses lots of clarity to increase edge detail in the midtones to increase sharpening and add grain but the result is my good friend Fengwei looks very stressed leh!

nice shots sonikbyte, especially the last few shots. your pictures look like shot on tri-x 400 film. for street/journalism purpose it really suits well

but some of earlier shots, could be better if the contrast is lower

Richard, I shot all in jpeg fine, image size was medium 4512 x 3008 pixels. So I wasn't even using the full resolution of the camera sensor. I only brought 2 lenses to the outing and only decided to use 1 lens to shoot everything. I haven't shot in a long while, so I'm pretty rusty. Important thing is to pre visualise the scene and being determined to shoot quickly. I don't spend time fiddling with the camera too much and compose in camera with little or no cropping.

I am using so much less my K7, and I did take it to Turkey late last year, and did some shooting. It is time to come back to learn from all the sifus. I am frustrated with my street photography, and still embarassed to ask people's permission to shoot. I prefer close-up shots to bring out the details of pimples, wrinkles, moles if any...and of course expressions as I can see in some of these such as the chess players. I am tired of shooting the backs of people. I need sifus help and advice....

Yes that's right. I was trying to pp them to feel like tri-x. I like a darker contrast tone to my subject.
