Pentax Q - Open Box ...

Frank how's the fotos taken at Comex?

Took quite a few photos yesterday, but didn't have time looking through them yet.

Three things I can say at least:
1. It's very easy to operate, easier than you'd think for such a small camera. If you've used Pentax camera before, you probably don't even need to ready the manual
2. AF is really fast for a small camera like this, I feel it's faster than GF1+20/1.7 combo (which is considered to be pretty fast for an EVIL camera)
3. Photos are really really sharp even wide open

I'll try to post some photos and hands on experiences later on ...

Thanks for posting. It really is a very attractive camera.

i really felt that i had a much more fun time taking pictures before i got to know about dynamic range, depth of field, diffraction, crop factor, MTF curves and all kinds of scientific and pseudo-scientific terms that does not necessarily improve one's photos, but makes for great conversation... :bsmilie:

the Q takes pretty nice pictures. strange that many pple would rather focus on small sensor rather than nice pictures.

Q users have no sensor envy ;)

Boss, we await your extensive test photos and pearls of photographic wisdom. :)

get your facts correct lah.. 10% smaller from where ah?

gf1: 116mm x 71mm x 35mm
q: 99.06mm x 58.42mm x 30.48mm

it's 176390.357/288260 = 61%

q is 39% smaller than gf1, not 10%!
not to mention the big lens needed to cover bigger sensor size....

not pentax dslr, not q, you seem very happy to criticize pentax? at least don't put misleading figures, it will only embarrass yourself.

I'm thinking that he's talking about camera size?

That said, Q body might not be that different, but lens size factored in, it's definitely a lot more pocketable..

Gotta finish my work and take care the kids first, this has to wait until later ...

Aiya! You are so busy, let me help you out by relieving you of your Q :D

Street price at sls is currently at $888

Hi Fengwei,
Thanks for sharing your first look but do upload some photos under varying light conditions when you can. Would be very in interested in how the camera performs under low light. While the common understanding is small sensors are noisy, technology is advancing so I won't be surprised they did wonders on a small sensor. :)

wow. so cute. does it come with a retro looking case?

The retro looking case isn't included in the box, but you can buy these cases separately:

Got an email regarding Q's lenses and accessories. Here are the available dates and suggested retail prices (shop prices can be considerably cheaper), either are already available or will be here on 15 Sept.

Wa, the lenses are cheap! (as lenses go)

Whoa...reverse of the "Printer sale model"...camera expensive, lenses cheap!
But odd that it cost more than the Kr!

Nice...reminds me of the Oly Pen accessories!

Sorry guys, no time to look through all the photos. Here is a random photo taken during the day, wide open focused on the eye/face:
