Any update where to get the Tamron 17-50 2.8 here in SG ..

Regarding Tamron service I think you gotta make sure 1st. Currently there is some mixed up and problems with who is the official service center here but if you are not concern with local servicing then I think it is ok.

Initially I wanted to send my lens in for calibration via the local agent but I hold back due to current on going issue. I am worried that the lens might face problems during transition.

The Tamron 70-300mm is $220-240, from what I remember from other price lists, but may be hard to get.

anyhow, anyone knows how much the tamron is right now?
i can get it here for 115 pounds. that's about S$310 using a 2.7 exchange rate.

Sigma 70-300mm f4-5.6 DL Macro Super DG Lens - this one's 95 pounds
Sigma 70-300mm f4-5.6 APO Macro Super DG Lens - and this is mad, 155 pounds, definitely out of the question.

anyways, i know the lens is soft, but it's alright, i'm not really planning to dabble that badly into macro, only want to shoot butts when i get the chance. so this is enough for me, also like the working distance. i remember longko mentioning that the tamron is better.

Bro if you want the Tamron best get in UK, cos IIRC the agent here dun bring in or in very limited quantity for Pentax mount. Malayasia selling RM5xx (in Penang, should be Megastar). For Sigma get the APO it's sharper, think OP should give the best price ($280 i think).

Tamron is better in QC, so dun need to check like siao^^; IIRC if there's 2 sharp copies of Tamron and Sigma are compared, Sigma is slightly sharper.

Edit: Why never tell me u need >.< Else let u take from Snowywolf and bring mine on the trip to UK lol

I got mine for US$158.77 from Amazon, including shipping to a friend in US. If I'm not wrong, you can find it on VPost too for less than S$300... though I've heard horror stories about VPost's tracking system. Order now and maybe you'll get it the next time you're back for vacation. :bsmilie:

I seem to get pretty bad CA/purple fringing when shooting birds between 200-300mm, but it only shows up with birds and not other subjects. Wonder what it is with birds... :dunno:

The price i mentioned is the price they offered me. Thus, i think its the best they can offer. Level 1.

i think it might be the back lighting. anyways, all these lenses perform rather well between 70-200, then from 200-300 it is another story. funnily enough, i'll be only using that range. don't think i am *that* interested in macro to invest in a sigma 150mm macro or 180mm macro. :dunno:

Wow! Those are pretty good price. GST included? Glad to see price for this lens finally came down.
