The DA 18-250mm is so much higher than buying from US :o

hi all, anyone see this lens Sigma 18-125 F3.5-F5.6 DC? Seems not in the list.

What to do, the local agent sets the price. :thumbsd:
As an aside, all the 50mm lenses prices I got are grey because no stock from local agent. Got one for my client today. A little cheaper than what I paid previously.

Even the prices of Pentax cameras outside Singapore have come down a lot. The difference doesn't justify buying locally imo.

WTF 1200????? 300 more can buy a godamn DA* already!

Spot on dude!
How does the Pentax and Tamron versions differ by almost $500 here, but US$1 in US?
When I last checked the exchange rate was 1:1.5, not 1:480... :dunno:

I'm having a look around for the smcP DA 40mm f2.8. Since everything for sale in Singapore appears to be significantly more expensive than it is overseas (why is that anyway...), I'm considering purchasing it online. Any recommendations in this regard?

I have been out of the SLR circuit for about 10 years, only recently took it up again. But f2.8 appears quite a big number for a prime lens. Am I mistaken or were this type of high quality lenses previously around f1.4? Did I miss something in the past 10 years? ;)

The DA 40mm f2.8 is a pancake lens and has a smaller maximum aperture due to the compact size.

Pentax also has FA 50mm f1.4 and FA Limited 43mm f1.9 as normal lenses.

The Pentax 18-250 is around $990 at MS. Thats about $400 more for the SMC coating

SG$920 including GST. It was from Bally Photo Electronics (the one with the Silver lettering on the signboard, not the blue one) at SLS.

That was the cheapest I could find.:dunno: Is it overpriced?

I looked in Funan, PP and SLS, in that order. But some shops including J3:16 and CP at PP were closed, it being Sunday. At Funan, all were quoting SG$980-1125 incl GST, for the K100d super kit (no SD cards or freebies) and what's worse, many did not even have it or the K10D in stock.

Finally went to SLS asked around a bit and decided to get it. Tired of walking and price-hunting. Another problem was that i was also considering the D40X and the 400D so had to comparison shop for the best deal within my budget.

Actually, if you don't mind high ISO noise, then the Sony alpha is REALLY attractive price-wise. SG$899 (incl GST) for body only, and SG$1099 (incl GST) for the kit-I. and that too at the SOny gallery in Funan...maybe able to get it cheaper elsewhere. But long term costs with Sony accessories may be too high...I don't know for sure..just a guess.

thought i should pitch in my 2 cents worth..
so after reading this thread, i went to check out bally's electronics (blue lettering) in SLS today to buy the Pentax K100D super. earlier i had tried orient photos and alan photo at SLS but they were both out of stock on the pentax.
the bally guy quoted me $880 for the pentax kit (w gst), and i thought it was already a steal considering the previous price quoted on this forum was $920.
but i was still deciding between the nikon d40 and the pentax, so i told him i'd walk around then come back.
when i returned 10 minutes later, he forgot what price he quoted me so he had to ask me again. i said 880, but then decided to go with the nikon. he was very eager for me to whip out my nets card and grab a hold of it. in the meantime, while he waited for his friend to bring down the nikon, he was asking me to buy filter and the bag.. i was quite wary cos i didn't know how much they should cost, so i told him i prob need to think abt it for those. he started being sarcastic towards me and that was when i felt quite uncomfortable.. so i told him i still need more time to think abt the pentax and nikon, and he disappointingly gave me back my nets card (thank goodness), while lamenting about how they need to do business and i was wasting their time.
as i was leaving the place, he said "ok, 600 for either the nikon or pentax, that is the price if you get it now." i just nodded and walked away while he continued to quote 600, cos i just found it even more ridiculous that he could slash prices like that. quite glad i walked out of trouble and didn't succumb to buying from bally's. learnt my lesson - will go to a reputable store instead.

There is no confirmation the Pentax version comes with the SMC coating. For all we know, it might be the same exact glass from Tamron.

Plenty of shifty antics by the ah beng sales goons in SLS. Just stick to more reputable shops there and that means either AP or OP.

The Pentax DA18-250 has "SMC" clearly marked on the lens ;) I guess this means it has SMC coating. The Tamron version has Tamron's own multi-layer coating I think. We need to do some comparison someday :)

Not that I want to doubt Pentax, but judging from some reviews on DPR, the Tamron and Pentax have the exact same properties, even the CA amount is the same... So...:dunno:

Then properly the Tamron one has Pentax SMC coating on it :bsmilie:

Nevertheless, both are good lenses I think.

Surely not surprising to see this price from AP. :bsmilie:
