aiyah...I tried to append my post but seems clubsnap has problems with my Netscape 7.2
it keeps on crashing it when I try to edit (but not everytime).
In anycase, I just wanted you to say if you ever get approval for bigger budget, can always pester fengwei to part with some of his lens collection....he has a very large droolable collection. ;p Right? Fengwei? ;)

Hmm, I'm not a collector, don't really have a 'large droolable' collection :) But I do have a couple of lenses which I might let go, including an FA100/2.8 (mint), a DA21/3.2 (like new) and a Pentax SMC Takumar 85/1.8 M42 (great cond.). If any of you are interested in any of these lenses, please drop me a pm ;)

Cheers,

welcome welcome...
BTW, now that I have the K100D, I will be selling off my istDL soon..if budget is a problem, PM me! ;). Otherwise you won't go wrong with the K100D or even the istDL2. Even without stabilisation its a good performer. As for lenses, you can easily get the Sigma APO 70-300mm zoom or the new 18-200mm zoom (i have both..heh heh). Only pain is trying to get a 50mm f/1.7 or f/1.4. These sell for hundreds of dollars...
otherwise you won't feel you missed anything with the lenses I mentioned.

There is always the option of getting used K-Mount manual focus lenses (some even 10-20 years old but in superb condition!). Primes and Zooms, plenty on eBay going for cheap!

mm..someone in Singapore should go into buying these and reselling them in Singapore. Build a reputation for having all the odd lenses and business will be brisk. No many people like to buy off the internet but I did see some really cheap lenses though. Pity many do not ship outside of the US.

Hi Feng Wei
ha ha..you are so modest...:) your shots are always so tack sharp. I only hope with the stablised ccd now, I will be able to get shots almost as sharp as yours! BTW, I noticed that both Tamron and Sigma does not have lenses with f value smaller than 2.0. Is this a patented design by the manufacturer? Thought I can look for a cheap Sigma 50mm f/1.4 lens..:p

Thanks for your kind comments about my photos. I wish I were as good as you said :)

Actually Sigma (and probably Tamron too) do have some fast lenses, like the 28mm F1.8 EX DG, 20mm F1.8 EX DG, 24mm F1.8 EX DG, and the much praised 30mm F1.4 EX DC. These are all very good lenses. The only drawbacks of them are their huge size/weight.

Maybe you should look for an old manual 50/1.4 Pentax lens, they are not that expensive, especially the M/K versions. The M42 Takumar (or SMC Takumar) ones are excellent too. Give it a try and see if you like the narrow DOF. But to be honest, when used in field, the 50/1.7 ones are not that behind. Go and get an F/FA50/1.7, you'd be amazed at what you get (over your kit or 18-200mm lens) ;)

Cheers,
