Pentax K-x help thread

What do you think?It's f2.8...
does the f number have anything to do with how good the bokeh is? i once had a minolta 70-210mm f4 "beercan" which i usually shoot at f5.6 and it gives good bokeh. so im wondering if the f number has something to do with having a good bokeh..

Bokeh quality is normally associated the number of aperture blades (the more being the better) , however the smaller the f number the bigger the aperture which will result in a thinner DOF which will in turn give "more" bokeh. But still the number apertures blades will result in a more rough/distracting , or smoother bokeh:D

yeh as i also know it has something to do with number and shape of apperture blades. :)

seriously thinking of getting a k-x tho no one.and really none ard me believe that pentax is gd. I am personally blown away by the pentax thread and reading it everyday. anyway a noob qns.

wat is the equivelent of pnS of the 200mm and 300mm lenses? if i am not mistaken, a 200mm range aint the same as a pnS 200mm.

can some pro enlighten me?

not sure to go for kit 2 or kit 3. that extra 100mm duno how mush diff it will make. for for candid as well as distance shot. 200mm duno adequate or not

When in doubt, go for the longer focal length one:) That's what I did.

not just the aperture blades, but the lens optical design also plays a part.

also, the focal length of the lens affects the DOF, that's why portrait shots are traditionally shot with lenses longer than 50mm. with a long lens like your beercan you can get blur backgrounds even at smaller apertures, however for a shorter lens, the bigger the aperture the better for getting shallow DOF. at 50mm, the tamron is f/2.8 while the kit lens is around f/5.6, that's a huge difference!

to answer jing14's earlier question, yes it can!

i think just forget about the whole P&S nomenclature, 10x zoom 28mm wide-angle, etc. the various marketing departments came up with their own terminology to sell their cameras to unsuspecting consumers.

for candids, you'll probably be shooting in the 50-150mm range, for landscapes maybe 150-200mm, and for sports, zoo, etc 200-300mm range. if you can spare the extra cash, go straight for the 55-300mm kit since that's a highly regarded lens and you will never wonder about what you're missing out. however, if you can't afford, the 50-200mm kit is also good since that lens is compact, light and versatile. if it's ever too short, just crop lor. ;)

hihi, just wanna ask if anyone knows how long it takes to update the firmware??

I started the update nearly 1hr30mins ago and now its on the screen which says "Updating Phase 2/2, COMPLETE" and the red LED keeps flashing. Is there something wrong?? or is it completed?

I read the guide and it says that if COMPLETE appears den its done, but the red LED is still flashing so i'm not too sure..

Quite often I press the LV button wrongly when I actually wanted to preview the last shot on display... hmmm, other than that this is pretty good camera and the 18-55mm kit lens is damn sharp. haven't tried on the 55-300mm lens yet. Just completed the firmware upgrade but registration got error stating Invalid or has been registered? can't be right? I bought it brand new.

Anyone hit this problem before? waiting for Emjay to reply email since Friday.

I think the USB cable is the same as Fuji F30.

Lots of people had this problem when purchasing their K-x.Did your K-x's box had a Emjay sticker on it?:)

Yes, it has... I bought thru one of the recommended sites here, so it should be alright. So, I guess it is just a glitch in their registration process/webpage lah.

Anyway, waiting for Emjay to reply on how to get my set registered. Thanks for the reply.

There are 2 serial no which contain the same sets of numbers...

got to use the correct 1... if i remember correctly it should be the the longer one else its the shorter one... both will contain a set of same numbers....just look at the sticker or box or the camera, can't remember exactly where but i know its 1 of the serial no.

Oh is it... it has to be the box one serial then, cos I tried registering using the one on camera. Will take out the box and try.

Thanks, it went thru but why is it asking for payment to registered ($68 1 year)? weird right?
