Pentax K-5 for $1600 only!

K-r with DA 35 already wooo... with K-5.. must be omg.~

healthy expectations lah... its better, but there's a lot more to it than the camera body ;)

Anyone knows what will b e price for silver k-5 locally?

Finally got the K5 from OP at $1600. SLRR quoted me $1605 yesterday.

Seems that Manly does not carry Pentax anymore.

Does the K-5 comes with a kit lens like 18-55mm? Is yes, what price (above $1600)?

doubt (coz i have yet to see prices with 18-55 yet), but you can always get the BODY from shop and get the lens from the BnS here :)

cheaper this way.

i thought only body ?

$1600 - Body only.

Anyway don't need the kits lens as I already had one(18-55).
It came as a package with the Kx when it was first launched in S'pore

Hi,

Does anyone know the of teh K5 with 18-135 at OP?
(On the pentax price list of this forum, it's written 2640 SD but since teh price of teh K5 dropped a bit recently, I expect it may change too)

Thanks to folks who clarified my questions on pricing and the "kit lens".

Just another one, sorry I'm posting it here because the old K7 threads are closed - a used K7 is good enough for a start with Pentax? Savings are quite substantial, compared to a new buy of K5. Thanks for any comments.

Yes a k7 is more than enough for a start to Pentax. It is a very solid camera

why not a new Kr?? the price is almost equal to a 2nd hand K7. K7 is still a good camera but Kr although is marketed as an entry level camera. It's feature and capabilities are comparable to mid level DSLR and u get good high ISO capabilities too.

to be very blunt - u will be getting what u pay for... no more, no less.

its a WR body and build quality is excellent. but its based on an old sensor (pre K-X) so performance at high ISO is not as good as the K-X.

The K-7 would represent a large upgrade in terms of controls as compared to a K-r. The twin dials, top LCD screen, direct controls for metering mode, focus point areas, focusing mode, as well as the option to add in a battery grip makes it extremely friendly for advanced users.

The sensor is old, yes, but good high iso ability is not required for all types of photography. If you have the budget please by all means get the K-5, its superb, but don't expect to take better pictures just because you have a better camera.

A new K-r and a used K-7 cost roughly the same.

Get K-r if high ISO output is important to you.

Get K-7 if WR body and more direct controls important to you.

:)

If you are getting it for landscape use, that's fine.

Though if you want to do long exposures like what I do so often, then the fact that you can't turn off the long exposure noise reduction process (which doubles every exposure timing, which means, you do 2 minute exposure, wait 2 minutes) would be a problem. If Pentax updates the K20D firmware to allow switching this off, I'll be more than happy to buy back one copy of the K20D (great camera, loved it) at the drop of a hat and dump the K-r. The images from that camera are visibly more detailed than that of the K-r, though of course, the K-r is not shabby either - I'm talking about this in a relative sense.
