PENTAX K-01 & smc PENTAX-DA 40mmF2.8 XS - Official Embargo Date: 2/2/2012

Looks like the GXR in some ways.

Hmm look like a piece of black brick.

Looks like a bigger Pentax Q. Nice design. I do hope it really performs as well as the K5 but in a smaller form factor. Too bad still no vari-angle screen.

Fengwei, I am still amazing how you can get all the images...
OMG...
better we go to have some drink...lol..

Do you have any news for FF Pentax?

If that is the new K-01, I think it's a nice looking little camera.

Waiting to see the backside !

wll

There is only one 'FINDER' on the camera, and it's the 3.0-inch LCD screen, same as the one on K5 ...

without ovf/evf-Oled, this camera will get a hard time in the studio.

Instead of shrinking the mount, they have shrunk the lens.

That's one way to go about doing it I guess.

In addition this has just become the mirrorless system with arguably the most comprehensive native lens lineup available.

This is also just my opinion but I find it really ugly. Like the ugly love child between a NEX and an Optio.

Any indication anywhere about the price?

I've always wanted a compact camera for more discrete usage during holidays. However, they are usually too expensive and spec-ed too close to a dslr, or too basic and replaceable by cam phone. I'm guessing this is at least 900 onwards?

The Pentax logo on the "prism" and strap is the old logo. Going for the retro look i guess, but the body don't look that retro.

Where did this image come from?

That is clearly NOT a K-01, but is clearly an APS-C camera with pentamirror/prism and viewfinder.
The flat front on the prism is reminiscent of the *istD which has a pentaprism instead of a pentamirror (although it could just be retro-styling).

I'm not sure if the looks of that camera will eventually grow on me... I think it looks kinda weird, especially the mode dial bit

That is clearly a silver K-5, although it has the handgrip of a normal black K-5

It's the "branded" and "designer" look! that means the ugly A3000 and SF1n must be modeled by designers too! okay, im being a little mean here...

Pricing will depend on whether this comes with an EVF.

Actually it doesn't look like it has an EVF, and the general build quality is rather plasticky so there is a chance that it is fairly cheap.

I'd like an EVF actually, but I think fengwei had also said that there is just a 3" LCD? Of course maybe there's a hotshoe EVF, but that would require a multi-connector port to display imagery on the EVF, I think. Can't tell anything from earlier photos - not close up enough!

without having the benefit of it being in my hand to see how it handles, I can only say it looks ugly. ah man..... where was the MX, where was the LX elegance.. sigh. Perhaps they have another camera lined - up? or how about a 16-50 update to the optics (a fix to the optical performance)? or how about a 23mm prime lens?

sigh

i'm quite disappointed in terms of the design from pic. A cross between GXR and an MX. I'd prefer it to either go modern boxy, or all the way retro like the Q.
Sometimes things are not meant to me mixed.
