PENTAX K-01 - Prestigious International 2012 Product Design Award

Congrats all new K-01ers! You know you've picked up a bargain when you use the camera, don't you!?

My recent shot with it, but had such a bad time with the blue sky. Maybe it's cos' I use AdobeRGB to record the image? Calibrated screen sees differently from the mobile devices, and PC. Absolute PITA. I'll start using sRGB (color space) and see how it goes.

Yes, indeed a bargain. I would never have thought that I could pick up a APS-C sensor for less than $200 (excluding the lens, etc), let alone brand new.

I used the K-01 over the last weekend - some niggling issues such as being unable to adjust the meter in manual mode - not a big thing but I would love to be able to boost the image in LV. Quick impressions - the handling is not that different from the entry level Pentax DSLRs, it's heavier than I thought it would be, but the LE noise is excellent and trounces that of M4/3 (which is why I'm selling off the EPL-3, or at least trying to). IQ wise the K-5 still has a slight edge, in particular for DR, but it's really slight. Amazing how far we've come.

Nice WK (the image). The m43s cams does have some issues with LE. If you switch off LE NR, it may just lots of hotspots, and that's hard to remove in PP.

It's a little big for mirrorless, but wo the OVF, it's still a little easier to squeeze into our cambags.

I am guessing that you probably carrying the k5 w 10-24, k-01 w 40xs. No need to change lens for walkabout shoots during travel!

Nah, I think I will still use the K-5 as the main cam, and K-01 when I'm in a mood to do so.. :) DSLR is DSLR after all. But I shot with it recently just to get a hang of things, it's easy to get used to, and I really am glad I finally got it, at a steal too.

Here's another one, done with it and the Tamron 10-24mm, pano at Star Vista.

Was there any railings to clip on at Star Vista? It'll be good if there is!

I agree you can't beat the speed of a DSLR, but it really helps as a 2nd camera esp if you use Pentax cos' the menu's practically almost the same.

Yes, there are... But I used a tripod for the shot. :)

I see the blue sky is color clipping, any solution to deal with that,

I got some shots in dark, the face darkness gradient is broken.

Banding is just part and parcel of life, and even if large version don't have (as there isn't here, actually), resizing will introduce it at times. Even the 14 bit K5 will probably have given banding at this size.

If it really bothers, what you can do is patch up the transitions or reduce the contrast/structure there. :) It's a quick job, but not worth the time to me.

Didn't know it looks so pretty over there. Haven't been there yet, and it's just two stops from me :(

It's a nice place. Huge too. Haven't had the chance to walk around though.. Seems like there's a lot of food outlets. :bsmilie:

Quite a lot of eateries. The place isn't air-conditioned until you step into the store. Kinda like this concept. Let's go there and shoot sometimes! ;-)

Hey, it's Star Vista... it's just a short walk away from where I live.

been looking for a k-01 and since i missed the deals, there isnt much chance now :(
theres one guy selling a single kit for 500 in b n s, wonder if he got it from the deal also....

Ironically, most of them wrote "Lowballers will be ignored" in their thread...

Personally, I'll just try to cut a straight deal with them.
Something along the lines of :

"I know you got it at $299 with lenses.
I'm willing to buy at $2xx body only. "

If they are unwilling, then those who got it at $299 will risk sitting on their K-01 until months later when they do have to sell it at less.

It's your call anyway.

If you dun mind brand new, our local retails shop may have stocks. I last saw SLR Revo having a promotion for K5iis , K5ii, K30 and K01.
It may not be cheaper, but it comes with the 70-300 for free.. That's the promotion which our distributor is giving out.

You can look for the deal at SLR Revo Facebook page and under their timeline, just scroll down and look for it.

Well looking at the price from SLRR even with the free Sigma lens.. let say offset about another 250-300 at BnS for the Sigma lens, you are still paying much more than what those people whom bought it @$299 and selling it @$500 brand new. It's actually up to individuals. How many sets of $299 are there actually from the recent promo. no body knows. Those who bought it are like hitting 4D or jackpot for those who din't got it just have to wait and wait for future promo or price drop..just like buying 4D. But for me i will treat it as a good buy compare to most retail prices if you want it now, too bad i am not looking for a K-01. Just my 2cent view :p

Yar, everyone should do that.

But I wager there will be people buying at the price they want. So that's how it is. :)

Sharing a baby shot...why so serious...? :)
