Pentax FA 50mmf1.4 vs Sigma 50mmf1.4

I've been considering getting the FA50mm F1.4 for quite sometimes. But it is pretty expensive now at nearly $500..:( Heard it was $350 awhile back only.. Most of you guys got it when it was still cheap right?

Yeah I got it about a year ago for $340. Think it was even cheaper before then

Sure, rub it in... :cry::bsmilie:

If it's any consolation, the M, A, Tak 50/1.4 hasn't changed much in years. ;)

Boh lui leh bro, ...buy apartment, buy car, go holiday, set aside moolah for CNY ang pow, wife anniversary coming, and today my daily wheels needs new electronic ECU unit, how to buy DA* 55?

Then what about my Voigtlander Nokton 58mm f/1.4? Cannot leave it orphaned and don't use right? Aiyah, why screw drive? I think SDM on the DA*55mm is fine. Not too many elements to move around and uber quiet good for stealth shooting. Don't worry SDM doesn't mean Self Destruct Mode...

When the DA*55 was announced, I was eyeing for it already. I sold my FA50 and got this lens as replacement. A lot got put of by this lens when hear about the slow AF, SDM might fail blah blah blah... however it is not a concern for me. No regrets getting this lens. A photo from this lens to share.:)

I passed on my copy to my brother and after that the price rose. Now I can't bring myself to buy a new one. Seems like my fastest 50 is f1.7 now

The Sigma 50/1.4 made sense over the new Fa50 price until I saw the size of it posted here.

Pretty dated thread but i just got into the thread title's dilemma and wanted to know if anyone happens to know the current prices?

I've been trying to find shots of the DA*55, istDes could you post some more pics?

This is really quite a rare lens, not many pictures of pics taken by it out there.

The color and contrast of the lens seems to be very good from the samples I have seen.

sigma is definitely freaking huge compared to pentax FA50.
currently prices are on the same level for both.
in the end it's tiny SMC or mega sigma glass.

for me, it's tiny SMC.
the HSM just doesnt justify the size...

heres a picture for reference..

FA50, can't bear to pay the new price.
Sigma50, focus issues from one copy in a shop in HK.

I ended up settling on a 43ltd instead for a AF '50mm' lens.
Also for the price, one can find a Revuenon 55/1.2 on ebay, so there are many options out there for a fast 50mm

Recently I just bought a Nikkor AF-S 50mm f/1.4G, and completely did not consider Sigma at all. Here are my reasons:

1. Sigma lens has many reported cases of focusing issues and variations of quality.
2. I have presonal experience with focusing issue with Sigma lens.
3. Sigma refuses to fix my focusing issue despite lens being relatively new and under warranty citing that the parts to fix it has EOL.
4. Reliability and consistency of original equipment manufacturer's (Nikon, Canon, Pentax, Sony etc.) parts, service, quality and optics.

So I would get Pentax anytime over Sigma.

The DA*55 is a very good lens, would be an even better one if its AF speed were abit faster. FA50/1.4 is pretty good too.

The Sigma 50/1.4 has been rated pretty high. I've never tried one, but given the choice, I'd go w/ the much smaller FA50/1.4.

my friend who is a guy who enjoys going to gym..
his choice is the Sigma, although he uses canon... haha

The Sigma 50/1.4 does go very well with a bigger Canon camera body, but not our compact K5/Kr ;)

you sure that this is not the 85mm? if this is the 50mm then it is really huge!

The Sigma 50/1.4 got a 77mm filter size, bigger than Pentax' FA*85/1.4 (67mm filter) :bsmilie:
