I've heard alot of people raving about the manual pentax cameras and lens. Just curious, are the current pentax film slrs and pentax AF lens any good? When i say good - does it render the same kind of colour saturation and how's the AF (no need machine gun speed like N or C :P )

Thanks guys. I just won a mint condition Spotmatic II on ebay. Should get it in a week or two.

Frankly I am not attracted by the newer Pentax. I already have a set of Nikon based digital and film cameras. It's the retro feel and build of the old Pentax that I find intresting.

I saw the Spotmatic at Lucky Chinatown too. Quite obscene the prices. There is a black spotmatic with lens in used condition being sold in ebay.com.sg. Starting at less then $150. Those intrested might want to browse it.

Nah, for you:

The Spotmatic F is a M42 screwmount camera. The last one is the miniature camera system.

The rest are bayonet K-mount cameras introduced in the mid 70s, the very same mount still in use today. The M42 lenses are adaptable for use on K mount cameras. Can say this is the true backward and forward compatible system.

The mid and high end Pentax optics of today still render images the way their ancestors do. AF is a bit noisy (same 'eee eee' as when you mount a motorless lens onto your Nikon body) but accurate. Most Pentax AF modules except for the very low end are sensitive down to -1EV, which is very very good if not better than the rivals.

But in these many years, I have met only 1 serious pro using the LX . That was during Asean Aerospace, a Japanese with the entire fleet of lenses.... he was kind enough to let me look thru the camera with them.... but too heavy for my handling lar....

only to find out that his gears were sponsored by Asahi Pentax... chey....

That's new. Didn't know Pentax still (if they ever had) sponsored professionals when it comes to 35mm gear.

If you think Pentax lenses are heavy, try the Nikon equivalents. Now, those are heavy.

Hi there, got a question, can your Pentax *istD use the older Pentax manual focus lens?

Yes, you can use your maunal Pentax lens on all Pentax DSLRs.

Yeah, you can use all the manual lenses. You can even use those screw mount lenses if you get one adapter :D

The D or Ds is really a good DSLR, especially the DS, cheap, compact and has most of the function the D has.

Hi! everyone, just need to find out, can nikon afd lens be used on pentax mz3 body.

The short answer is no.

But of course, there possibly exist adapters which adapt different lenses to different mounts, some being purely mechanical adapters, while some have corrective lenses to maintain infinity focus when the lens is mounted on another camera it's intended for. I won't be surprised to hear a F-to-K adapter in the aftermarket. You probably also lose auto-diaphragm and have to resort to stop-down metering mode. These adapters are for the niche market, and don't come cheap usually. You might be better off getting an actual Nikon camera for that lens!

But I'm curious to know why you like to do that... you like the MZ-3 so much huh?
