Guys, to put into perspective,
a Phase One Medium Format with "kit lens" is selling for nearly 16K USD.

The Pentax 645D is no doubt quite pricy. But when you compare it with other digital MF cameras, it is rather a bargain.
Plus its handling is like a DSLR and its menu system will make Pentax DSLR users feel like at home.
And throw in WR capability.

That's like saying a Ferrari is too expensive. It's all comparative, bro.
I agree with you if you say that it's too expensive for your own tolerance, but to speak broadly and say that the item is too expensive, i.e. overpriced, then you would have to pit it against something more comparable. For example, throwing the 645D together with a K-r and saying that it's more than 15 times the price is not really fair. You would have to, as others have pointed out, pick things like Hassleblad MF cameras, Phase One systems, Leaf systems... And then factor in that this is not a true MF camera.. And decide if it is "too expensive". Frankly, I think it's fine. Maybe not extremely competitively priced, but Pentax does need a return on R&D.

The upside to this is that advances in production and technology are pushing prices down over the years. Perhaps in 2 - 3 years the price of full frame will drop to below S$2k, and perhaps in 5-10 years the price of MF will from to S$5-7K. And perhaps then I will be in a position (finance wise and skill wise) to take full advantage of them.

zixaw, you own this 645d, from the other tread I read
with kit Dfa 55mm. Any others who own this beauty?. So far, in our local communoity, I have not seen images from pentax MF digital. Its nice, if you could post some shots to shareAlso, a check with orientphoto current indicative price is singapore 15plus K with kits lens 55mm. The old price was about 13k plus..
