PD170 - Low audio level

Got myself a PD170 but found that the recorded audio level is very low after loading into my computer.
Is it the camcorder problem? Anybody can advise?

You must make sure your audio meter be in the red (but not clipping) to have good level during your recording. If not the you will end up with what you have. Most Sony cams tends to have a lower audio level.

is it on auto mode audio mode...i cant remember the term for it.
you got to check its setting.
coz pd 170 will abjust its audio level so that it dont peak .
but something due to wind noise ...it will also lower it level.
hence the level will be lower.
try using manual level of audio.

the mic should be working. If you need good audio, got to get
a shotgun mic.

Hi, I used to own a PD170. Its audio should not be that bad unless you did some of the followings;


1) Forgot to turn on the Phatom power?
2) Left it on Mic AGC?
3) Connect only chnl 1 but left the settings for separate chnls?
4) All of the above?
If in doubt can always refer back to their manual which is quite clear with all the settings. all the best!

i think its the Mic AGC. try to off it
