So for our 400D/450D brothers, upgrade to a extended warrenty and you get a 50/1.8 all for $150! That's like $20-30 for the extended warrenty only...

price wise definitely not good. But they are giving away the normal freebies, plus an extra 4gb CF ultra 2, with a 120 GB Maxtor 2.5" harddisk and a philips 8" photo frame.

1. 4gb ultra 2 (useful)
2. 2gb ultra 2 (not enough)
3. lens book (useless)
4. canon bag (useless)
5. 20 dvd+r (useless)
6. philips 8" lcd picture frame (useless)
7. 120gb maxtor 2.5 external harddisk (SG65, 250GB selling for SG129)
8. tripod (useful guaa)

I think the only thing useful is item 1 and item 7.

I've asked Cathay and MC color. MC color is selling for 1770.

your take on what's useful and useless differs from person to person. Some people might find the LCD photo frame useful. So, yes, it's ridiculous for YOU to buy from PC SHOW. May not be the case for everyone else. There will be others who also find it USELESS. And others who will find it a good deal.

I also suggest you buy from MS COLOR instead of some dodgy MC colour shop.

For extended warranty, you can actually buy it online direct from Canon. And you can collect your 'free' lens from Canon SG direct.

I bought by 40D from MSC before the computer show last year, about 1-2 weeks before. Then they had the same offer, checked online with Canon SG and I was eligibile to register and buy the extended warranty.

So, if you guys want to buy cheap, and want the extended warranty offers, go check with Canon if this is still valid, will save you a bundle. In the end I sold off the 50 f/1.8 as it didn't suit my needs, paid about $125 for the 2 years extended warranty, quite worth in my opionion.

Give Canon SG a ring.

Yea 40D extended warrenty is about 250 i think i just went down... tell you dis year IT fair is a failure...... couldn't find nikkon den was told nikkon no booth... i oso sian.... argh.... quite a failure if you ask me for cams at least i dunno about the rest. like laptops or printers but overall doesn't seem as good as last year

Yep, that's what I am aiming at. But dunno where to buy it, locally, or overseas with more choices of lens... grey or otherwise... and now, got new decisions on what lens to get it with.... Original kit 19-55mm IS lenses? Pay a bit more for the kit 2 17-85mm IS USM kit lenses?

Someone suggested a EF (not -S) that can be used on Full frame bodies in the future, which is the 28-135mm IS USM.

Which shall it be? I don't like the non USM original kit 1 lense cos it's just that. Nothing about it. The 17-85mm IS USM usings the 3rd generation IS which can cut 3 F-stops. The 28-135mm is going for a damn good price from B&H but it uses 2nd generation IS, which gives only 1.5-2 F-stops. And I am afraid it might not be wide enough.

Decisions decisions...

28mm on Canon 40D is not even consider wide at all. with a APS-C sensor size 22.2mm x 14.8mm, its diagonal measurement is 26.7mm = normal lens. the 28-135mm is wide enough for full frame 5D. on APS-C camera, it work more or less like EF-S 55-250mm.

Every 3 months, IT/PC show always have free gifts depend on whether is good or not. Some gifts may be very useful some may not. So depend on whether you really need the free gifts or not cause the amount stated is including the free gifts. If you really dont need the gifts then just get it from any reputation camera shop.

agreed with doubleace. But in terms of retail dollar value of all the free gifts, it is a better buy. Personally, I'd like to save the difference and then use the difference to buy something I really want instead of the mandated free gifts.

Yupz, Tk was that price when I asked few weeks ago too...

Anyway, I think for $240 more, you get the photo frame and hard disk, it's quite worth it. Well, that's because I like this 2 items. Some more, there is also the 4gb ultra 2 which is ok as backup. Lens book can keep as some specs to read up. As for the rest of the items, almost can throw away..haha

But $240 for these 3 extra items quite ok lahz...not that bad a deal...

Kobbe1, like what doubleace had suggested, since most of the gift items seem useless to you. A better bet is not to buy at the PC show.

Regardless whether you are getting the 40D or 450D, suggests that you save the money on the gift items for a better lens to match the cam you would be buying. Better optics, their capabilities prevail. Would not recommend you to by either cam with the 18-55 kit lens if given a choice.

You have very high expectations of your equipment. That is all I have to say. Either that, or you are (and I am sorry I have to put it this way) an equipment snob. A lot of people would find what you label as useless to be a godsend.

For instance, I can tell you that unless you are a machine gunner, a 2GB CF card will give you enough for almost a month of casual shooting. How do I know that? My Ultra II 2GB has been sitting in my 1DII for almost a month already, and there's still space. On average, across this month, I've shot about 400+ frames and still have space for around 300 shots, shooting on Large (8MP), quality at 7.

u shd go for the extended warranty cos it's only $150 for 450D & u get the free 50mm F1.8 worth $120 which is good for portrait shots. Which means having the extended 2 yrs warranty for a mere $30!! :bsmilie:
