Ok, for the PC Show, these are the criteria to buy:
40D body : $1,450 buy now price.
40D kit 1 : $1,650 buy now price.
40D kit 2 : $2,000 buy now price.

very sian... looks like not going to get it there liao...

hi peekarwe

thanks for the info, you mean 40D kit 1 selling $1,650. How did you get to find out the price??

anyway I'm defenately not getting the grey ones, i can't wait liaoo. got to get it tommorow on the 1st day of PC fair. hahaha

so looking forward to it. will see what are the freebies, don't expect be great but at least something

I've asked MC color AMK HUB, there are selling 40D kit I with SG1770.

thank again.

i think he meant, if the show offer's those price, its time to buy..
but street price for body is around 1550 - 1599, so 1450 i guess is not quite possible.

True... wishful thinking on my part. haha.

If the prices aren't that great, I think I will just skip and go grey. The price savings are substantial. Kit 2 price differential is $400.

Hello Peekarwe
U aiming for the 40D?
Very good. Got it for about one month. Good time to buy as the price has dropped. No regrets!

Yep, that's what I am aiming at. But dunno where to buy it, locally, or overseas with more choices of lens... grey or otherwise... and now, got new decisions on what lens to get it with.... Original kit 19-55mm IS lenses? Pay a bit more for the kit 2 17-85mm IS USM kit lenses?

Someone suggested a EF (not -S) that can be used on Full frame bodies in the future, which is the 28-135mm IS USM.

Which shall it be? I don't like the non USM original kit 1 lense cos it's just that. Nothing about it. The 17-85mm IS USM usings the 3rd generation IS which can cut 3 F-stops. The 28-135mm is going for a damn good price from B&H but it uses 2nd generation IS, which gives only 1.5-2 F-stops. And I am afraid it might not be wide enough.

Decisions decisions...

I'm also a beginner in DSLR. What went through my own mind was just get the kit lens set first from one of the better known reputable shops (don't have personal experience from grey set shops, hence cannot recommend). Then as one moves along & knows more, acquire the lens one by one in the long run. Before one gets the DSLR, too many "options" in the "what lens should one get" will make one more confused or indecisive. The kit lens is something like a general purpose lens to start off with. If you really don't like the kit lens, can get the 40D body alone first, then decide whether what lens suit you, wide angle/portrait/macro? I got a EFS60mm macro for those tiny shrimps. For bigger fish I've been recommended 10/22 (haven't bought yet) which U/W lens port is the same as the kit lens, hence kit lens is fine with me.

Hope you take the 40D plunge soon :-)

Will be taking it soon enough. Well. The thing is, I sold off my entire Olympus system and starting with Canon from fresh so in a sense, I am quite new to the Canon range. I have a G9 and the 430EX so that means I will stick with Canon. 40D is certain, just the lense. I do a lot of portraiture and close up so 50-80, pushing 100 is good for me on a crop body.

Very wishful thinking dude. Sad to say.

time takes its toll on tech stuff. Unfortunately, there is the liveview AF which someone out there is going to fall prey to as a marketing scam. Anyway, the 450D body alone is not $1,450 isit?

Nope. The 450D kit can be found on the street at S$1350.

Initially i was thinking of getting 450D, i also find alot of people are so hook with the live view and light body (I was one of them previously) and forgotten that 40D had live view too and i still believe that camera with more grip and slightly heavy is better. Eventually, 450D user will have to get the battery grip too. Nevertheless, one thing good about 450D is it uses SD card.

Nevertheless, 40D price is not far from 450D and 40D is on midrange, it worth more to get 40D. Guess canon is bringing down the price probably to clear the stock, maybe the 40D new replacement model is coming out soon.

peekarwe, the last time i check on 450D in cathay photo is 1399 (body, 18-55 IS lens, 4GB SD, the stupid camera book which I'm psycho them to exchange something, but fail)

Today newspaper stated PC show's price...

PS show pricing is always according to RRP... normally, they just bundled with many goodies (which u may or may not need)...

cheers

You'll be happy with 450D, and probably happier with 40D. Depends on your needs. I shoot kids running around alot and speed is important to me. Well, if you ask me, and some others, I think SD card is actually a CON, not a pro.

PC SHOW prices not that great. $1499 along with the usual freebies. Looks like it's no go for the show.

1) Not everyone likes/needs the extra bulk of the battery grip. It's subjective from user to user.

2) S$1399 is definitely not the best price. You can get the kit, as I mentioned earlier for S$1350 at John 3:16, with the 4GB card as well, but with an additional camera bag (not made by Canon).
