Yes, you can use the batteries for all functions, even when linking to the PC via USB.

The adaptor is only needed when you wish to the charge the batteries or when you wish to power the device via AC instead of batteries.

You do not need any drivers for Win XP, Win 2000, Win ME.
Drivers are provided for Win 98.

However, the unit needs to be power by either the 4 pieces AA or AC Adaptor. It does not draw power from USB.

I believe just like the way a floppy stores & receives files with the Windows OS only.

Yes they will see the CompactDrive as a removable hard disk and you can transfer files between your PC & the CompactDrive.

I bought one yesterday with a 40 GB HD. I find it to be fast and reliable. THe battery life is much better and also you can use any AA size in case you travel and forgetr the charger. YOu can also use it as a USB drive. Plus you can charge your battery while in the hotel.

As the user cannot change the hard disk of the PD6X by himself, what to do if he needs to replace (a damaged or crashed) or upgrade one? Send it back to Eastgear ?
