Panasonic Lumix GF1

Drats! I just read this thread 30 min after I ordered a 3rd party battery from Germany. It was only £18. I emailed them before they shipped it to ask whether they had actually tested it in a gf1 but havent got a reply yet apart from a shipping email saying it's on its way :( but if it doesnt work I'm going to send it back from whence it came.
I don't see a problem if Panasonic want to stop 3rd party batteried but not if they're going to blatantly take advantage of the customer because they've managed to lock it down by charging so much for the battery, £60 is ridiculous I don't care what anyone says.

Just heard back from my German friends who sold me the battery on ebay. Turns out no, they haven't even tested the f**kin thing in the DF1.

Heres my emails to them -

Hallo vhbw24,

Hi, I sent a few emails now to you with no response yet. I bought one of these which you've now shipped. I read on a camera forum minutes after the purchase that the GF1 may not accept 3rd party batteries. If this turns out to be the case and yours doesn't work I will be sending it back and will expect a full refund plus cost of shipping back to you as I tried to contact you before it was shipped.
Regards, Aaron

Hello,

Sorry for the problems. Please send back the article with a short explanation of the problem and a copy of the invoice. We will check and replace or refund the money.

Hi,
I haven't even got it yet, but what I want to know is have you actually tested the battery in the camera you're trying to sell it for?

Hello,
Why are you selling it on ebay if you haven't even tested it and know that it works? I suggest you remove your listing until you can confirm that it actually will work otherwise you'll just keep having them returned at your cost.

So, don't do what I did people.

Hi everyone,

I am considering buying the GF1 but I was wondering...does the GF1 require a drybox for normal storage since it uses interchangeable lens? Cos if it does then I'll have to budget for it as well!

I was actually looking at the Canon G11 but I am kind of distracted by the GF1 haha...the G11 doesn't need a drybox for storage right?

Sorry for asking so many questions...hope someone can help me out! :)

Hi, suggest you get the kit first, u might be using it so frequently that u might not even need a drybox! ;p

else yup i would think it is required. as long as u are leaving lens around untouched for more than a few days, it would be good to have one...

Right...thanks! I will go ponder over it :)

b4 asking this qn, u will need to understand what the drybox does. Different pple consider the word "need" differently. Your qn is like asking if a Ferrari race car need premium race tyres. Well, for ultimate performance, sure. But u can probably fit in used 2nd hand tyres and the car will still move along. Similarly, u can fit premium tyres on a Chinese made Cherry QQ (hope i got the brand correct). It's a matter of preference and what u consider to be suitable use of your budget and "need"

Anyone knows where I still can get the black GF1 twin lens kit...think most place sold out liow..

Hi there,

I dun think there is a twin-lens kit out there, cos I just got mine. Comes either in body + 20mm lens or body + 15mm - 45mm zoom lens.

however, 20mm lens (or affectionately called 'pancake') will be available soon.

looking forward to the attachment viewfinder.

Not so true about the TWIN lens kit, I bought the 20mm kit and top up $200 for the zoom lens. in a seperate box.

tat's a gd deal.

we got the 14mm-45mm kit and bot the 45mm-200mm.

had wanted the 20mm or 40mm, but was told it's not in stock yet.

Well, all I can say is :thumbsup:move and bet you'll take even better care of your gears purchased with your own hard earned $money$, right bro??;)

Btw, do PM me if you'd like to pick-up a little more in terms of photography...yah =)

Hello blueskye, sorry for the late reply again. Was working for the entire week. Now finally free to reply. Do agree with you. Thats why I do treasure my own equipment after sweating and saving up hard to get something I want. Will remind myself how hard I saved just to purchase the equipment

Haha. Ok. I have added you as friend. But meantime this holiday wont have much time to research about photography. Probably when sch reopens will have some free time to do shooting and research again. (:

By the way, think got no choice but to stop looking at GF1 since their original battery movement is gonna be expensive to hobbyist like me. :x Like what Fotophilic mention, no point dicussing over here since Pany still still go ahead with the locking of 3rd parties battery. Maybe will spend more on lenses for the 20D, since new EFS 18-135mm is out. WEEE!!! :bsmilie:

Anywhere in Singapore selling the Red GF1?

I've heard rumours (across 3 diff stores here in S'pore) that the distributor isn't planning to bring the red one in... but I guess if the stores get enough requests for it, the distributor would to have to reconsider. But I know Panasonic office here in S'pore (and their S'pore website) shows the red.

(That totally didn't help, did it? =P)

Hi Nature88:), that's so nice of you(know what to do during sch vacation and most importantly know what/how you'd spend your hard-earned$$$ wisely:thumbsup:)

Well, me too and have just added you too:cheers:

I believe you're a person who have the ability to weigh/balance between sch works and still have some free time for your photography(take your time, step-by-step...yah...right?) =)

For me, I've been looking at Oly EP1 and (if ever...??) EP2??, since not much point to talk about the GF1 cos of the "you-know-I-know-things"...hahaha...the batt-thing lor...!!.

Yes, as for your case the 20D, EFS 18-135 IS (135mm x 1.6 = 216mm) is equipped with what I'd call it 'a-good-focal-range-lens' and in case if you need just that little bit 'wider-view', there's EFS15-85mm IS but need to fork out more this-->$$$ leh:sweat: yet 85mm x 1.6 = 136mm...sigh...=)
