Panasonic LUMIX DMC-LX100 & LEICA D-Lux Type 109

nice! i'm hoping for a 3rd party grip or a gariz case that will allow battery/SD card door access.... but i think it will be difficult considering how near the door is to the tripod hole....

I doubt it. Like you said, they are limited by space to work on.

agree.... can only hope for an innovative solution.... base plate could be attached via 3m adhesive like how the Richard Franic grip works....that would allow battery door access.

how are you liking the type 109 so far? I find the lens seems to be sharper at 75mm compared to at wide angle of 24mm...which is abit of a disappointment for landscape work. luckily the image files seem to take sharpening well in post.

Same here :( was looking for the Leica grip but had to skip it as no access to battery.

Hope a solution will be available soon. But yes, having a grip helps a lot.

I sold the RX100 III for this because of the bigger sensor and still manageable dimensions. I think the lens has a good range for snaps. Understandably, noise control and image quality will be limited by the size of the sensor. Won't use it for assignments. Until a FF compact with equivalent lens(perhaps slower) comes along, it's probably is the best thing in the class.

those looking for a glass screen protector from GGS can purchase the one for the Fujifilm XM1/XA1. can almost say it was designed for the lx100/D'lux screen.

and the cokin harmonie uv filter fits nicely under the auto cap.

may I know does the D-LUX TYPE 109 comes with case and lightroom software if we purchase from Leica shop?

pop in one of the local Leica shop and they only tell me it comes with standard accessories, flash and filter, forgotten to ask about case and lightroom software.

some images to share from a walkabout after work today. The sensor doesn't do very well with bright spotlights in close proximity. the streetlights become washed out into a ball of light.

Yes, I figured that this is a camera more suited for good light.

Hi, new LX100 user here.. Hope to learn more stuff for you guys ! :D

I know both LX100 and D-Lux109 are also using 4/3 sensor, so how is the iso performance of the LX100 and D-lux 109 as compare with OMD series cameras.

ok, to help bro Ricleo with the sharing ;)

Type 109, Standard

(I prefer Natural renders but this is to show the standard) - and ya, the Type 109 and LX100 does render differently.

In practice, my eyes couldn't notice much difference compared to my GH3, thought it was similar enough.

DXOmark comparisons show approx 1/3 - 2/3 EV difference? My math is terrible, if someone knows better please feel free to correct me ;p

An SNR value of 30dB means excellent image quality. Thus low-light ISO is the highest ISO setting for a camera that allows it to achieve an SNR of 30dB while keeping a good dynamic range of 9 EVs and a color depth of 18bits.

A difference in low-light ISO of 25% represents 1/3 EV and is only slightly noticeable.

Yes, the sensor performance are quite close, but i will give the edge to the OMD. LX100's iso performance is quite decent, but i would try to keep it below ISO 800. 1600 is the max I would go from a IQ perspective. However with a fast lens that starts at F1.7 and a pretty effective OIS, I find the balance of maintaining not so high a ISO to be quite good.

DXOmark tested DR of 12.5 Evs on the LX100. That's very good for a P&S cam.

High ISO performance of the EM-1 is definitely much better than that of the LX-100. Though really good for a compact camera, I find that the noise reduction algorithm in the LX-100 is quite strong even if it was toned down during raw processing resulting in more loss of details compared to the EM-1 at a high ISO of 1600.

Yea the NR for JPEG is quite heavy handed even at -5 which is a shame cuz I use the 4K photo mode quite a bit. The raw files are really good for a compact camera though, very malleable.

Hopefully someone can share jpeg of both LX100 & 109 to compare.
