Panasonic LUMIX DMC-LX100 & LEICA D-Lux Type 109

Was looking at the photos. The LX100 seems to have a built in automatic shutter lens cap. The leica seems to be a classic normal lens cap.

Am I right?

Yup, like others have mentioned, it's a separate accessory: http://www.panasonic.com/au/consumer/imaging/camera-accessories/dmw-lfac1.html. For reference, it's priced at ￥3,880 on Amazon JP. That's approx S$40+.

IMO, it's so essential to the LX100 they really should have just made it part of the package.

If install a uv filter will be same as protecting with lenscap right

You can scratch a lens cap many times and it doesnt affect IQ but if you scratch the UV filter just once, at smaller apertures the scratch will show up. You would likely end up buying many UV filters.

It's auto lens cap, so when u turn on camera, it opens up lens cap and you can shoot straight, the auto lens cap stays on lens. no more messing or loosing of original lens caps. if u are one who looses lens cap easily, this accessory is for u.

I just bought 109 from Europe so I am surprised that it is not here yet. I have not use it yet so no initial impressions to share. By the way where can I post on Leica Camera in this forum. I dont wish to be OT in Panasonic sub forum.

If it's the 109 .. the correct one should be the m43 section. I don't think anyone would mind you sharing your thoughts here as both (LX100 and 109) are essentially the same. :dunno:

I think nobody will mind if you post in LX100 threads, given the close relationship between the two. You can try the Rangefinders: For the 35mm purists section too (where most of the Leica chat is...) subforum. But it would technically be OT there as well, as the 109 is neither a rangefinder nor a 35mm.

For Compacts, both film and digital are welcomed.
