A member of the EOSHD forum made a chart of the signal path:

Looks like a 12V battery is required to power the YAGH just to use XLR. :(
The C100 looking more and more like a better idea.

Footage and comments from a french shooter who had access to a pre-production unit:

“I am the founder of « Les Machineurs » a rental house and post-production facility based in Paris. I started as a photographer in 1991 and I am directing for TV since 1993. I am crazy about cameras and I like to share my point of view on my blog I made for french speaking people (www.pampuri.net) this is maybe my first post in english, my apologize if my english is not good.

I had the chance since the GH2 to be a beta tester for Panasonic. And I am very honored to do that because I like this products and Panasonic Camera team is listening to people like me to improve the quality of their cameras.
When I just had the GH4 in my hands 2 weeks ago it was a very good surprise. All the good things in the GH3 are still here, the very good ergonomic form factor and this compact size I really appreciate a lot. And a lot of improvement also. At first, the picture quality in the EVF is now very sharp and you can use it for focussing manually with 2,3MP it’s amazing and you can now use peaking !

The new 4K video is insane, because of no down converting, and there is also a Cinelike D mode what I liked so much on the Varicam. For still photography the new shutter have a very quiet and sexy noise and it’s incredible fast. I have to wait about new Lightroom version to see how is the raw but Jpeg are better than GH3.

For video codecs, the 100mb 4K H264 4:2:0 looks good and the 1080p 200mb All-I mode is also very good. The dynamic range is also better than GH3.

we are in Beta 0.4c and there is some little bugs but nothing really bad to says about this new camera, I already love it and for me this is the most mature M43 hybrid camera ever built. I liked the Olympus OMD-EM1 very much for stills but there is a huge step for Olympus to improve the video part of this camera. And Panasonic GH4 still photography quality is now growing up. If we could merge the two products, that would be great.

For me GH4 is the most exciting versatile hybrid camera to shoot videos and photos I had in my hands. Of course you can have better quality, This picture quality regarding to the price is incredible.

I shot this video in Hong Kong in street night public lighting conditions and you can download the 4K file from vimeo (Click here) to see the quality. Or watching it on YouTube (Click here).

I will do some other footage in few days, stay tuned !

I'm camping here for news of any company who will make an alternative to the YAGH.
The connectors pins are there; most shooters won't need the HDSDI outputs;
something that is purely for balanced audio input, powered by AA or 9V.
Shouldn't cost that much, right?
I mean, the $500 Zoom H6 has phantom power on 4 inputs and runs on only 4 AA batteries!

Thats a good idea ... An attachment just for XLR Audio for less than $400.

I don't see why not. I will be snapped by just as fast the the body itself.

Not sure when can we see the GH4 in SG. They are already available in US.

IIRC, with the GH3, SG was 3-4 months after US? So maybe Jul/Aug?

Another first impressions review:

A 4K Video Powerhouse / A Stills Workhorse

A Review by Michael Reichmann

----Snip----
To summarize the GH4 in a single sentence, I would say that this is a MFT system camera that is fully competitive in terms of features, functionality and image quality with anything currently on the market. It leaves little undelivered for stills work. If a 16MP image size is adequate for your shooting (and it is for mine), then you'll likely find the GH4 a very practical and enjoyable stills camera.

When it comes to video, the GH4 is in a class of its own. There is nothing currently on the market, or even announced from any manufacturer, that can trump the GH4 when it comes to video in a DSLR / CSC form factor. This is the only camera of its type that can shoot 4K to an internal card, and which also features variable frame rates in HD mode. Note though that a U3 rated card is needed for the highest video bandwidth. These cards are still very pricy.

Oh yes – and at $1,699 the GH4 is nothing short of a bargain.

Am I getting one? In fact we're getting two, and likely a third as well, replacing our GH3 cameras which we use for all of our video productions. I also expect one of the GH4's to become my daily shooter for both stills and video, as well as serving as Chris' workhorses for video production. No, I'm not kissing goodby to my Olympus E-M1, but let's just say that for some purposes I'll be getting a lot cuddlier with the GH4.

If only Panasonic menu is switchable to other languages, I will just buy it in Japan. Especially the GH4 is a world cam, no worries of PAL or NTSC.

Noticed a response from Panny SG:

As usual, Panasonic Singapore has no information and know nothing :(
I enquired about the GH4 and they suggest I should perhaps consider the GH3 instead.

Panasonic's Nic should be 'Sibei Sibei blur' instead :)

unfortunately the demand for GH-series cameras locally is just not there...

Unfortunately, this likely applies only to the firmware on export units for the international market.

A user on mu-43.com commented that domestic sets of the GH4 have Japanese only firmware.

Japanese versions, which I saw, are still Japanese only.

Perhaps late May or June availability in SG shop.

A nice video shot on the GH4. Great skill, camera is secondary here.
