Compared to all the VDSLR style video cameras currently in the market this is the highest spec camera 4k at 96 fps... if the specs are true this beats out cameras such as 5D mark III, D800, A99 for video in every way. And it might be cheaper than those cameras. This camera is truly a game changer as it will force the biggies like Canon and Nikon to launch DSLRs with 4k soon or loose out.

Awesome. It's out and all the requests from gh3 has been put into the gh4. Like xlr and focus peaking finally.

Let's see some real life footage and see if it would match up to those in c500. If yes, this would be a dream indie 4k camera.

A C500 costs like 20k it cannot be compared to something like this. FS700 with 4k upgrade will be like 12k which also cannot be considered in same category either

This is for the indie filmmakers and amateur videographers.. Canon cameras have been the rage for years now.. DSLR rigs, youtube contenet creators, indie filmakers all are more of less centered around Canon DSLRs and Panasonic GH range cameras. They probably have like 80% of that market.

Ofcourse I cannot afford this right now but I like this development first reasonably priced 4k camera...

Nothing about P2 cards so far, but UHS Speed Class 3 (U3) for high bitrates above 100 Mbps.

Love it so far. Would definitely like to consider this in a year or so without the early adopter's premium (then again, if this is anything like the GH3 rollout...:bsmilie, hopefully that's when the price has stabilised, and most importantly, when I should have a new editing workstation. Running outta storage & speed as it is now...

Looks like an early announcement. Pricing supposedly only out in mid-March, so speculate away!
(For comparison, GH3 was launched around Sep 2012, made it to SG around Jan/Feb 2013?)

Crazy dynamic range! Very Impressed. Highlights very well-controlled as evident from the water reflections and leaves. Shadow details quite good too! Definitely the most filmic GH to date!
I'm sold!

From a hardware point of view, the GH4 looks a lot like the GH3 - and they're similar enough in footprint that the forthcoming model can still use the same external battery grip as the GH3. Some of the fine detail has been changed, with the inclusion of a 1024x768 (2360k dot) OLED viewfinder panel and a shutter that's capable of operating at 1/8000th of a second and rated to last for around 200,000 exposures (twice as long as the GH3's).

It's clear that storage is still a little bit of an issue with such immense throughput required. Panasonic is utilizing the absolute latest in SD card technology, featuring UHS-3 speed class. With an SD card, 1 hour of 4K footage will take up around 45 GB (!!) of space. We can understand why the camera itself would be limited to more compressed video, since the full 4:2:2/10-bit scheme would greatly increase the space necessary to capture footage, and likely require memory an expensive, proprietary memory solution (we're not huge fans of P2 cards for that very reason). Out of the gate, Panasonic will be the only company with UHS-3 SD cards, but, we're hopeful that other flash memory producers will have other options on the market later on this year.

Wow! The DFD (Depth-of-Defocus) AF system seems to be the solution to lens breathing and focus hunting. Camera no longer have to try focusing in both direction to determine whether subject is moving further or nearer; it can tell by analysing the blur. End of days for follow focus?

It will be under $4k and most prob priced nicely with the Ax100.

If u consider editing in 4k, hard disk is the last thing on your mind to consider cause that's the cheapest in the whole upgrading. The first is your Mac. You need minimum macpro to start with. Your current mbp or iMac isn't Gona cut it.

Fcpx loves using the gpu so it has to be at least 2gb to fully utilize the fcp speed too.

In all, going into 4k means at least $10-15k investment dump in just to get it started.

That's the key holding me back from 4k cause I can spend $10k but will anyone appreciate the quality?

I might just get the gh4 for its 4k sensor on 1080p hoping it looks as nice as the c100 (which is gorgeous on FullHD using 4k sensor) and also the 120fps.

SD cards have nothing to do with fcpx bro. It's the card slot in the Mac that might need a software upgrade from apple to read sd3 cards at max speed but I doubt so. Remember, fcpx only cares about the format of the video, not what cards u use. U can put 4k clips into a old corporate gift thumb drive and it still is readable isn't it?

If I'm recording gh4 in 1080p, I don't need to upgrade my equipment as yet so it's just the camera costs.

Actually, I hoping for c100 to drop price after this cause I really prefer the canon look. Lol

It should be like the GH3, where only EU-designated models have the restriction.

The maximum recording length is 29 minutes 59 seconds on the European GH4 due to tax reasons but I believe the US model has no such limit and is PAL / NTSC switchable.
