After Pany discontinued the AF100, GH range is their default M43 video line. Why have both G and GH for photographers?

GH3 onwards has been 50% photographers 50% videographers so the line has been blurred.

If I wanted to take photos purely, I would rather use a 5d3 or a compact (if dslr is too big for the occasion). Mirrorless interchangeable cameras are like in the middle, not as fast as dslr, not as small as compacts like rx1.

Gh4k will be generally a video based camera for sure.

I got some G4K info from different sources:

- G4K has focus peaking
- There is an attachable XLR adapter
- H264 codec all intra that give 422 color all intra in 100 mbps. To record this you will need to buy the new P2 Micro card in SD shape made by Panasonic (see image on top)
- it will be switch-able from 4K and 1080P with various frame rates (can shoot 120fps at 1080P for example)

Think it might have been a typo. Looks like a GH3 successor in spirit, but it doesn't feel like it'll be a 'replacement' as it's probably over-specced for the average shooter. Hope they'll continue to sell both as there are enough differentiators. If you didn't know, there's a bit of 4K-excitement going on, good to see Panny getting in on it.

Haha! @ US$355 for a 64gb card... siong. According to the rumour, only for 4:2:2 All-Intra (100mbps), should still use regular SDs for the rest.

Anyways, 3 more days to go before all is revealed.

Fresh leaks/rumours:

A website leaked the Panasonic GH4 images for a short time (I am not going ti unveil the site name to see if I can find more info soon). The specs are
- 16,05 Megapixel sensor. It’s a new sensor with semi-conductor protection tech to reduce noise and improved dynamic range.
- quad core processor and venus Engine
- ISO up to 25,600.
- 12fps, 7,5 fps with continuous focusing
- GH4 uses the new UHS I class III SD card format
- Depth From Defocusing (uses Panasonic lens database to fine tune AF!)
- AF as fast as 0.07 seconds. 49 AF points.
- 4K video at 4096×2160 pixels and max frame rate of 96fps.
- Bit rate of up to 200Mbp
- Magnesium body
- Price not unveiled yet
- There is an optional Interface Unit (see image below). Has 2 XLR, 4 SDI, micro HDMi output, color bar signal, audio reference signal, external time control

Sweet! I like the beachtek style attachment! It gives shooters the flexibility to go light for b-roll and heavy for serious audio work which often times will be on a tripod.
Chances are the attachment will likely cost more than the body!
Still, as a package, the GH4K is a watershed camcorder:
The first 4K panasonic camera
The first MFT DSLR with with professional audio.
The first MFT with HD-SDI
I just hope it's not the first MFT camera to use P2 cards!
I guess the market has spoken. The camcorder form factor has given way to the DSLR.

but I highly doubt the entire package was designed with a rigged setup in mind.

Wow this looks seriously good for the specs... Probably the lowest priced 4k camera interchangeable lens camera on the market... Only other I can think of is the FS700 which is so expensive. And 120 fps is half the FPS for the FS700 so decent slow mo action...
