bro. no 1 seems a bit OOF or is it my eyes playing tricks on me? :dunno:

i notice a lot of ppl using this toy are having very good results..

anyway good takes.

i also confused and had the same thinking abt no.1 but when i zoom it it looks ok ah.;p

just like to ask something..

since the fz18 by itself cannot shoot portraits with a blurry background, even though the aperture is set to the smallest possible number with focus, is there any compatible add-on lens that can do that?

What do you mean really? You want a shallow DoF shot with only your subject in focus right?

Actually you can do it. Although smallest F-stop is the best, in this case, the smallest Fstop you can get with the FZ18 is a wide angle shot... doesn't help what you want to get. Instead, zoom in to about 2x to 4x? You'll see better results, just play around with it, its something I'm trying to master myself.

Just a tip I've recently learnt from a friend, use the Marco mode, I thought it was kind of lame, but actually it works. If you zoom in more you get Tele Marco which works really well too. If you want, use manual focus even.

Yup I think u get what I mean :). Actually I do use the macro mode when I do that.. But somehow the background is still quite undesirable.. -shrugs- Maybe i cant expect much from a digital camera?

You can expect a lot! I strongly believe FZ18 can bring you very very far for amateur photography =) (At least I must believe in this because no way I'm going to waste my money on dSLR)

How much do you desire really? You can photoshop to blur it more, I do that most of the time when I didn't think about DoF for fast shots.

How desirable do you think is desirable for you?

to get bokeh or shallow DOF, your aperature needs to be wide open for eg f/2.8 and lower. It's a pity the FZ18 doesn't have a fix aperture therefore the aperture gets smaller as you zoom in. however, wat you can try is to go near to your subject. by doing this, you are "seperating" the subject from the background.

there is another workaround which involves software editing which is to cut out the subject then apply guassian blur to the back ground.

Heh, I can't explain the extent that I desire.. but i tried my friend's DSLR, and he showed me the function.. background was really blur and the focus on the model was really clear...

i've tried this on objects at home, and it works, but when i try focusing it on people, the background is still very clear haha..

but thanks for giviing good comments about the fz18.... i love it even more now. i was in a struggle whether to buy a dslr or fz18, and even regretted a few times that I got the latter instead. i don't regret it now

It can be done at F3.6, well maybe not THAT desirable, but its good enough for me, depending on the distance, I mean the background is really blur that you won't tell what the object is, only the color. However, chances are you'll only be getting a headshot, maybe up to the shoulders. You probably won't be shooting the whole body.

But really I think unless you're in the pro world, a bit of bluring is enough for the effect to work nicely for most pictures. (I think at least).

Anyway guys I need a bit of help here, I'm not sure if this is the best thread for it but I really don't know where else. Its about the Pemaraal adapter for FZ18.

I know McJill sells but he only bundles, I don't have that kind of budget nor any need for a marco lens. I've arranged to buy a TCON already so, there really is nothing I need but the adapter.

Anyone is able to advise where else sells it besides online? The other users who previously claimed that they wanted to sell, never seem to be interested to reply me. Sad.

Alternatively, anyone wants the Raynox DCR-250? Perhaps we can buy the bundle together and split the parts.

=(

can no problem. DCR250 adapter is not a screw on but a lock on ring. my 52mm adapter also it can fit and i see it can fit in bigger ones too. but maybe bigger diameter can create some distortion.

finally bought my TCON! From quite a nice guy. Love it lots, now I need a DMW-LA3. I guess I'm just going to buy it from ebay...

Feeling happy today. :)

Now I'm just curious, anyone owns a TCON + FZ18 + a few filters + DIY Flash diffusers? I'm using a Lowepro Rezo 170 but I don't seem to be able to get an optimal setup with the bag. I want to be able to pull out the camera fast and on some occasions leave the TCON attached in the bag (easily retrievable). What bags will you use?

On a side note, I am quite surprised with the CSers I have met so far. I expected most to be headstrong and outspoken (like impression of photographers), but I have traded with is like humble and soft-spoken (like me), contrary to their online tone.

congratz for buying ur TCON

actually this online tone thingy not only apply to CSer, alot of forum and chatroom this person maybe very outspoken but when meet up real life they are actually soft spoken and quiet... so dun judge a person online, hehe

home-made flash diffuser. I made it out of recycled materials, milk bottles.

I made it bounce backwards from the pop up flash unit, and then there is an umbrella shaped like board (white/black, I can flip the sides around depending on the amount I want) that bounces the flash back forward.

Otherwise I remove the opaque card I put between the front diffuser and it will just diffuse through directly. This is usually for low light situations.

=) Just my 2 cents creativity. Quality probably doesn't challenges those proper diffusers on the market, but I'm really quite pleased with the results. It makes the flashed objects less whitewashed, more saturated and natural. Almost as if you put an ND filter on but turned up the saturation a whole lot.

Just got my DMW-LA3. Woots!

hey guys,

not sure if u are interested to know, was at simlim just now and went into alan photo to look for FZ18 len adapter DMW-LA3... they dun have, but they got a 3rd part len adapter which is better than LA3, its like LA3 but tat can be split into 3 part, so when i dun nid the tele i could remove it and will not course any "blockage", thus i can use tat adapter for wide angle filter also... the end is 52mm but the salesman give me a step up from 52 to 55 for free... anyway the brand is "emolux" and its black colour cost about $30, i think u all might be able to get it lower, coz i'm not a good burgainer

hey guys, need help.. lumix FZ18 comparing to fujifilm s8100fd. which is better and valuable?
