Own a 60D should I upgrade to Canon mark III or Nikon D800

Any reason why u want to upgrade?

If you're doing just for the sake of it.
Then by all means just do it if u can afford it or getting 1 makes you a happier person. If u can..you may want to look or just buy the D4 or 1DX too..So..u know u got the best and there is no room or thoughts to "upgrade" again..at least until the new flagship model is announce again.

Anyway in any case...TS..if your reason to upgrade is because u saw so and so...took some nice photos because they are using those gear.. then you may be wrong. Better/"Best" equipment dont necessarily give you better photo.. Its you. Hope you understand that.

Decision is really yours.. Your money anyway.. Really.

Presume you mean Canon 5D Mark3 when you say Canon mark III.

Asking this in Canon thread may be a troll for the usual (yawn) boring brand wars.

So go ahead and buy the Nikon D800. If you are happy with it, good for you.

If you are not happy with it, then sell the D800 and buy the Canon 5D Mark3. Very simple, right?

No need to crack your head over such a straight forward decision.

It is only a camera.

If your thing is landscapes, then go for the D800. If it's speed and high ISO, the 5DI3.

And since you didn't mention the A99, then you only have these 2 to compare

Gosh, now we have Sony into the mix. ;p
Btw hardly seen anyone using Sony, how's Sony DSLR fare against the two biggest name in DSLR cameras?

Get the Canon Powershot A1000 and learn photography from scratch. after that you will know which camera suilt yr shooting style

They are just as good, same with Pentax and other brands. Different brands have different offerings, so it can never be an apple to apple comparison. But at the consumer level, all brands are equally good.

TS currently owns a 60D.

or didn't you read that?

only true for customers buying the pro-level cameras and shooting in Auto mode.

but when it comes to serious hobbyists and professionals, they know which product offering is better for their needs.

or they know the weaknesses of their workhorse and how to overcome them easily.

hardly seen anyone using..yea..quite true..but that does not mean its bad (in case if anyone is wondering)
As the saying goes..in the end its who use it..not so much of what brand he/she used.

Long story short.
There are some famous people using Sony too and i dont see their work or picture any weaker as compared..

If u have facebook.. u can take a look at.. Manny Librodo Photography. He uses A99 and Rx1.

Aiya. Like I said before. Get the Canon 1DX and the Nikon D800... then get the A99 just in case. There three big brands, three great cameras, problem solve.

the latest iphone looks pretty good for any user dependent on technology to make better photos.

I guess point taken by TS. Don't think there will be any similar questions for a while... can be quite intimidating for TS lol

I upgraded from Canon 60D to 5D3. I did so without the need to ask for opinions here cos I have a clear need for a full frame camera based on the type of photography I specialise in. So ask yourself why u want to upgrade.

Lucky you.... I know what I want.... but my pocket say cannot....

Anycase over the years..... being upgrading gears.... but seem that my skill is not up on par.... so lukcy my pocket is holding me back....

What I mean should I get Canon 5D Mark III or Nikon D800. So many review on the net some say Canon are good some say Nikon. Would want to get a FF and stay with it for good and upgrade my lens.

Get a 6D instead and save $$ for your lens... technology change too quickly and you didn't quite able to justify to yourself to get a 5DMIII ;-)

if you don't know what to get, chances are you don't even know why you're actually changing cameras in the first place.

which means that you don't know what your current gear can do, which means that you'll just be wasting money.

U really need to read the detailed online reviews to evaluate for yourself the pros and cons of each system. If u are talking about which system to go with "for good", then it's not just d800 vs 5d3 but a broader perspective of nikon vs canon. Each system has its strengths but depends on whether do u harness the strengths eg. Nikon's established CLS is a plus point but do u use CLS? If not then that's a strike off from the list.

So bottomline is none of us can tell u which is a better system for u.

Hmm.. I think you're still missing the point here. Yea. Exactly. Some will say Canon is good. Some will say Nikon is good.
So what u really want? If all u want is a FF camera. Just get any of it. Both are FF and u cant go wrong with any.

So..now go to the shop or showroom. Hands on. Play with it. See which one you like more and then Buy it. Then start taking/making/creating picture and compare less. End of the day...People look at the picture not the gear. Oh if they do..dont worry. Both the 5D3 and D800 are pretty much on the same level too.

Also, I'm quite sure u already had 1 in your mind. Just go with it. :)

Own both at the same time. Next few years there will be new models with more fantastic features.
