Hope it stops raining and soon, I'm very adverse to my camera getting wet. Since this is an outdoor shoot I'm assuming there's not many places to take shelter. Besides with such a big group we're gonna need a lot of shelters!

hmm raining now?
will this session be still on if its raining?

*Palangsi replied, he say will be still on :)

Rain or not, I still go, because of the allure of Popeye's there. :bsmilie:
Also, this kind of weather is actually good for even lighting. Then again, we're doing this for outdoor lighting exercise, no?

yes, the outdoor lighting will be good for a lot of different shoots.
I might add light ( flash ) to have more contrast if it is too low.
there will be some shelter under the benjamin sheares bridge next to the flyer, there is also a outdoor amphitheatre area that is covered.
I was hoping for a clear blue sky but we will see later if that is to be.
If not wait for the early evening to have portraits against the city skyline.

Thank you all for the guidance to a newbie like me..Especially my "group-members", Palangsi and Mr man-in-black (I couldn't catch his name) ^_^
I learnt alot today..
After borrowing Palangsi's setup..I think I will head down to Sungei Road to get my basic setup to play around hehe.

Btw, a note from my sister:
To those who had taken the photos of my sister, kindly do not post her photos over the internet.
It's deeply appreciated ^_^

It's a great session..Hope to be able to join you all again in the future.

Thank you Francis, Man in black :) and all......

Hope to join again next time. Really enjoy the outing.
Appreciate it.

The Man in black is called Baracus.
The weather today was not clear blue sky.
So had to rely on outdoor theatre to shoot the shots and so everyone was a bit spread out.
Lucky Baracus was there.

There is a photo contest ending on this wednesday,

Try to apply the knowledge you learned just now to do some pics and send in if you have the time.

thanx francis for the sharing session. truly an enriching session today. will need to do more practice to make good the lessons today.

Thank you for all the other fellow ppl for the sharing in the midst of our little mini formation. look forward to seeing u guys again...

5 things I learn from this session:

  1. You don't need expensive flashes to strobist or off-shoe; you need cheap but capable ones.
  2. Whoa, just adjust the distance between subject and flashes; no need to adjust power on flash! New concept for me.
  3. Meter your background, meter your subject; adjust for how many stops either subject or background needs to be illuminated.
  4. High-speed synchronization problems? Trial and error, and find the sweet spot where the flash's exposure is actually located.
  5. Always test, practise and experiment.

I might attend future outings like this. More inspiration for me.

Some of you know that my flashes are very cheap.
And I know that some want to go to find and buy them from sungei road and cash converters.
I forgot to tell you that I spend quite some time looking for all my flashes, years in fact.
So I don't want to get your hopes up.
The previous time I went with some others to sungei road, I bought three but they were all not working.
Better to spend your time taking more photos.
My showing the usage of cheap flashes is to impress upon you that any kind of flashes and camera is sufficient to take a photo if you know how to, so practice, practice, practice.

I myself learn from strobist.com

Train your finger.......

MIB? Call me Agent B :bsmilie:

I apologize if I couldn't help out more or wasn't clear in explaining concepts. Talking isn't my strong point, which is why I let Francis do all the lecturing. I won't be able to help out for the next 1 month+, so I hope others can step up and help each other out. :)

Don't be modest.
Both Francis and you did great, enlightening me ^_^
Hope to see and learn from you all in the next outings to come :)
