Sifu, how did you capture this. i mean there is nothing for you to pre-focus on. I tried shooting flying bee by pre-focusing on a flower but still failed. Great skill.

thanks guys

in times like this, no AF is fast enough to focus on the bee
so i switch to manual and focus on thin air, wait for the bee and fine tune the focus and click
lots of trial and error. Just hoping to get one in focus.

great skill is patience and persistence
btw this is my 3rd attempt at shooting hovering bees
1st 2 attemps were bad

Thanks for sharing on how to capture that. At least we can work on this a little harder.

you are welcomed, always glad to help, it took me awhile to be able to get that shot, don't give up and shoot until you get it.

BTW I am closing this tread and restarting another tread

[ortega] - my adventure with a P&S camera

once I find time to take the photos out of the camera
maybe on the weekend.

Until then

Thanks for sharing the technique in capturing the hovering bee. Will pratice on this one day. I had tried a few attempts on hovering bee by pre-focusing on a flower that the bee will come to but til now no success.

beautiful shot alex! great timing and beautiful colours

my only gripe is that it appears a bit oversharpened on my monitor?

thank you KK, are you using an LCD?
I'll check the original file

Maybe I am old already my eyes become blur, so oversharpen :)

thanks again

thank you for your overly kind comments
but i am sure that here are better ones out there.

Self critique:

Folds on flag could be better
a wider angled lens would also make it better (BBB)
clouds on top left could also be better

The star looks like glowing which make this photo unique.

I don't think I'm overly kind, I'm just being frank ... I agree with your self critique, except for point number 2 ...

A wide-angle shot wouldn't make it better, it would just be from a different perspective. Your tight cropping of the flag is one of the factors that makes this shot unique  Of course, the cross created by the backlight over the top star is another factor ;)

this one already 17mm, lens is next to the flag,
trust me a wider lens would do wonders for this kind of shot

anyone want to sponsor? 12-24?
I put your name on every photo... :embrass:
